Unusual venue Peak District/Manchester a desperate plea!

butterfly2016, 1 January, 2013 at 17:23 Posted on Planning 0 25

I'm still fairly new to this site and want to get planning my wedding but have fallen at the first hurdle! We cannot find a wedding venue which is right for us. I'm worried we'll have to settle for one we think is just ok and really don't want to do this.

I've posted on here before and had some great ideas given to me but I still haven't found the one.

We've tried:

Rivington hall barn

Hartington hall

The Ashes

Styal Lodge

Saddleworth Hotel

and looked at hundreds more on the internet.

Is anyone in the same boat as me - when will we ever get to find and book somewhere?

My brother lives in Glossop and I know they struggled to find something suitable in the areas you are looking in. Are you looking for one venue for everything! Ceremony and reception etc or just a reception?

    Thanks for your reply.

We're open to both - a place that does it all or two places.

What sort of venue are you looking for...what is your criteria? We were looking in similar areas so looked at a lot of the ones you have listed....

    Have you tried Hargate Hall?

Thanks for that, well I was unsure about viewing Hargate Hall as wasn't sure if it looked too small. Have you seen it? Our criteria is about 80 in day then 110 ish at night. Did want a barn/countryside type venue but open to new suggestions now!

Yes we have been to see it - we have approx 85 guests and felt that the hall itself wouldn't be big enough for everyone to sit down for a meal. They do have a marquee though, which is fantastic I must say - it's huge and very reasonable compared to others we researched. But the downside for us was that you can't have the band / DJ in it, due to the noise. So you would need to move back into the main hall for this part. It is a stunning venue though, very unique and in a lovely setting.

Thanks for the information. It seems similar to Hartington Hall which would be an amazing venue but for us we didn't want different parts to the wedding in different places. Have you had any luck yet?

snc12 I will book a visit thanks for helping with that.

Any other ideas then please keep them coming! I never thought it would be so hard to find the venue!

This might be a bit out of the way for you but how about The Great Hall at Mains? Its a barn which has an amazing house next door which you can book for accommodation. We visited this place and fell in love with it. The only reason we didn't book it is because my other half wanted more bars on offer! We booked Bartle Hall in the end which gave us both everything we both wanted, it's beautiful (but not a barn). Both venues are near Preston. We live in South Manchester and didn't really want to go more then an hour away. Bartle Hall and The Great Hall at Mains are both approx 50 mins for us. Like you we struggled to find a venue until we saw these two. Good luck!

Yes we liked Hartlington Hall but felt the same as you about people being spread out in different rooms. We also looked at Ilam Hall - have you tried there? It's also a YHA ?

We have provisionally booked Wilderhope Manor:

It's also a YHA and owned by the National Trust. It is in Shropshire though, which is fine for us as we live in Staffordshire, but not sure if it's too far for you? If you have any questions about it thought please ask Smiley smile

Another venue that might interest you is http://www.parkfarmhouse.co.uk/weddings but again not sure if it's too far?

Your venue looks gorgeous. Thanks for the links but both too far for us. The 2nd one I've actually looked up before. Scary how many hours over last few months I've spent on finding venues or trying to! Thanks for your help though

Like you, me and my other half struggled to find the right venue around the South Manchester area. Check out The Great Hall at Mains, its beatiful. The only reason we didnt book here is because my other half wanted more rooms and extra bar areas. We booked Bartle Hall in the end as it offers everything we both want (but isn't a barn so probably no good for you) Both venues are near Preston. Good luck!

Hassop Hall is lovely, they've got the main house which holds up to 120 ish (I think) and then the ballroom which is much bigger. It's on the Sheffield side of the peaks though so would depend on how far out you wanted to venture out.

Can highly recommend Sandhole Oak Barn as well!

    Good luck!

Katiechops - we visited here and thought it was lovely but not sure if will have enough room for our numbers.

Katianne, nutella, magserelli, the wedidng singer - thanks to you all - we will start to look and possibly book some viewings.

Finally, Mrs*w*2b - you helped me on my last thread so thank you again, I'm assuming you're in the same area as me. I hope I get there eventually!

I just wanted to let you all know that I have found THE ONE! I'm not naming the venue as people I know come on here and I'd rather stay anonymous but I am so, so happy! Thank you to all of you for your help and some of you commented on other posts I put out there about venue help. I will promise to help others who are looking in the same area in future on here to repay the kindness I was shown. Oh and there was a cancellation so I am getting married in mid August!!!!! Can't quite believe it!
