Unusual/Simple Favour Ideas for Guests Please?

Nicoletta, 3 August, 2009 at 13:01 Posted on Planning 0 20

I was not going to go down the favour route however I think I would now like to give my guests a little something - has anybody got any good ideas, whether personal, sentimental, simple, unique, different etc.?

Do not want to go down the route of the usual sugared almonds, looking for something a little different, maybe something bit more personal.

Appreciate any feedback!

We went to a wedding a few years ago and they had bottle openers with a pic of them and the hotel on, thought it was a nice favour and practical.

I am going to make wine charms - they will be used during the meal & guests are free to take them with them. If they don't then its something I won't mind keeping to use! Children will get goody bags to occupy themselves during the meal.

Other options are mini plants (you could grow these yourself from seeds) or packs of seeds, lavender bags, fortune cookie, lottery tickets or bet for a horse race that is on your wedding day, charity pins, miniature liquor bottles, other types of edible favours apart from sugared almonds are bags of jelly beans, Cadburys Heroes, fudge/tablet, chocolate, cookie (with guests name on to double up as place setting), mini jam / other preserve pots you could make yourself, a wooden fan if its a hot day ... the list is endless! If you do a google search you will come up with lots more ideas - I find American sites have some really unusual ideas....

I gave handmade soaps (not made by me, bought online and they matched our colours!) and I also made little labels with the date of the wedding on and tied them round with brown string ... the boys got a whisky miniature and we put personalised stickers on them ?

I'm also plannin to make wine charms, I'm going to put the guests name on them, I have bought silver alphabet beads and other swarovski beads also, I thought they could also double as place cards.

I made some chutney as Christmas presents back when I was a skint student so I'm going to make mini pots of chutney for the men and jam for the ladies I think. Fingers crossed it goes down as well as it did before! Also going to design a pretty tag for them so they double up as place cards.

We didn't have favours as such - instead had buttonholes for each guest. Quite a few people have mentioned they they liked them.

I've made poker chip name places (am undecided if I'll actually use them now though) and chocolate footballs for the boys and a chocolate horse/pony for the girls - chocolate isn't very original but I thought better than a foil covered chocolate heart!

The idea I loved and wanted to do, although it just proved too much of an effort in the end was this

    Love the jams/chutney idea!

We're just having these little crackers with ribbons tied around the end. Inside is a snap, and romantic quote and trinket thing... it's more to get people interacting with their neighbour than a take home favour...iyswim!

    Hey,

Have you thought about lottery tickets? I think that's what we might be doing, possibly putting them into a fancy pillow-box as a keepsake?! Especially if you're getting married on a Saturday, you could kinda have a portable tv and watch the draw?! One of your guests could win 1000's lol what a good memory that would be!

I am giving tiny plant pots with sunflower seeds in for my guests to grow after the wedding, but only to the women. We are donating to charity for the men in honour of my H2B dad who sadly has passed away.

After seeing how much place card holders cost, 'm thinking of making edible ones out of icing. Not exactly a favour, but definitely simple and unusual.

I'm making mini eccles cakes (or rather my chief bridesmaid is Smiley smile ). Neither of us are from the area, but we both moved near there recently and our theme is all about special locations, as we are a combination of dutch and Londoner, with french place names etc etc

I bought some silver bell placecard holders (placecards included) off ebay, then had little envolopes with our names and wedding date on the front, on the back....Good Luck from mr and mrs .... inside im getting lottery tickets for all the ladies. The lottery ticket envolope will sit in place where the placecard should have gone. (placecards will still be used) the men are having mini whiskey in a tuxedo shaped box.

I made these and everyone loved them. Not one single charm was left on the table.

I had organza bags for them to be put in after they guests took them off the glass.

The men had vodka or whiskey and they went down very well as well unfortunately for my H who was hoping for some to be left so he could drink them! lol

We had personalised chocolates from www.chocolatechatter.co.uk which went down well. We placed them at each seat and then handed the extras out for evening guests as well.

Mogwai - you don't need place card names if you get the stand up cards. ?
