Update on my ankle

Ice Queen, 19 August, 2009 at 20:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

Good news is the brace is finally off - bit of a relief as it has either been in that or plaster since 21 January

Bad news is that I have managed to tear my achilles tendon, so now have insteps in shoes and tomorrow have to have an ultrasound to see how bad it is, and a steroid injection to stop the pain

How is everyone else with leg problems getting on?

Another one for the knackered leg kleek. I hope you all see some improvement soon.

I have a dodgy knee, had arthroscopy in jan and was told i have a really rare condition called synovial chondromyosis. Anyway knee still no better, cant fully bend it and cant fully straighten it. It hurts to do anything that involves impact, even cycling hurts. It constantly aches and swells and gives way. Not good when you do 12.5hr shifts which involves being on my feet and have 2 kids 3 and 1 to run after

Was referred to rheumotology and his answer was to lose weight, i am 5ft 7 and weigh 65kg so hardly massive. Luckily my orthopaedic consultant appeared on my ward last week and asked how things were going. I told him, hes a bit concerned that there has been little improvement in particular the straightening issue. He has arranged to see me on friday and is talking about having another look inside my knee and doing a lateral release whatever that is.

MRI has shown that the linning of the knee is thick even after they shaved it in jan.

Hopefully i will have some more answers on friday.

I have had a lateral release

they just go over a few tendons and scrape them a bit to make them a bit more flexible/longer around the lateral side of your kneecap.

can usually be done with keyhole surgery.

I have total sympathy for all of you guys - I did all of my knee problems when I was a teenager - was only the second person in the country to have had a Fulkersons tibial tuberosity transfer done (with lateral release). I was on crutches for most of a year -once one leg was fixed and out of plaster it was on to the next one. I have a discoid meniscus in my right knee (cartilage that is supposed to be doughnut shaped and go round the edge of the joint like a washer actually separates the two surfaces of the knee instead) and all sorts of scars.

I would like to offer soothing vibes to everyone's bruised hands for those using crutches. This was easily the worst bit for me.

Hope you all heal up soon, and well.
