Update on our wedding planning so far .....

Katie Baker, 16 March, 2013 at 20:18 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hello ladies,

I hope you're all well & having fun planning your weddings so far?

I spend many hours browsing this website reading other brides to be post's & thought I should really contribute. Plus it'd be great to have these kind of posts to read back once the wedding has been & gone. :-)

So, my Fiancé & I are getting married on Monday 26th May 2014 which luckily for our guests it's a Bank Holiday Monday! We have booked a few of the important things so far, wedding venue - Woodhall Manor Suffolk, the registrar & have now decided on the photographer - Ben Lavenham who is from Suffolk & his work looks great! He has shot at Woodhall Manor quite a few times & we have been very impressed with the work he's done there. The wedding will be taking place outside which I am very excited about - I just hope the weather holds!

We have decided on the colour scheme to be teal, turquoise & olive green. We recently sent out our save the date cards here's a picture ..

We were both really happy with out they come out & now I cannot wait to get the invitations designed & sent out but I know I have a little while yet to wait for that!

The best man, ushers & MOH have been decided, I'd ideally like 2 other bridesmaids but this will a tough choice so I think I'll play it safe & keep just the one.

I'm not quite sure what we should be thinking about booking/planning next so any input would be a huge help! I do have a few 'to do' check lists which I'm sure will be a saving grace at some point!

I'm not quite sure on flowers yet, my favourite flower is Gerbra's but I'm not quite sure whether they'd be too much or if they'd go well with other flowers? The good thing about gerbra's is I can get them to match our colour scheme very easily!

I don't think I'll start looking for wedding dresses until September time because I know if I find one now I'll keep looking & find something else so best to wait nearer to the time - also I'd like to lose a few lbs! Smiley smile.

It'd be great to hear of your wedding plans so far!

Hi Katie, I used to live in Newmarket until a few months ago!

Congratulations on the wedding! I've looked at Woodhall Manor online and it looks lovely. I'm still struggling to find a venue in Cambridgeshire - have you seen any 'dry hire' venues on your search?

In regards to your dress shopping, some people buy the dress up to 2 years before the wedding. I would also leave enough time for the shop to order the dress (I've read that some can take 6 months) and make alterations - so anytime from June would be ok! Have you got any ideas on the type of dress?

Hello! Sounds like you're doing well with your plans so far - it's exciting, isn't it?! I haven't long to go and have everything done now so must do a flash soon!

I would suggest organising your music now as that was the next on the list for us. Regarding the dress, I did the same, I waited til September (my birthday actually) to buy the dress and, as I'm getting married in May same as you, it's the same length of time!

I'm not good with flowers but gerbras looks nice and, your florist can advise you on what the can be matched with in terms of other flowers.

Best of luck with the rest of the planning and come back to do some more flashes for us when you've more stuff done! ?

Oh wow, small world :-)! What made you move out of Newmarket? We moved here April 2012 & I now wouldn't want to live anywhere else, well for a while yet anyway! Between the age of 16-21 I worked with race horses & lived in Newmarket so knew I always wanted to come back!

Oh yes I hadn't even thought about the bridal shop having to order in the dress, I guess I should start looking a little earlier. My mission for the wedding is to find the cheapest, nicest dress possible. I'm not one for having a posh designer dress to wear for the one day when that extra money could be put towards other final touches.

To be honest I've been looking at so many different wedding dresses online I know I'll need to actually go in & start trying them on before I can get an idea of what suits me but I do like a simple A line white dress, hopefully one shouldered. But then again the more I see lace dresses I do quite like them.

These are the ones I've seen so far that I love in preference order -

The 1st one would be my ideal wedding dress (if it looks nice on!) but that's just one I found off the internet & it's an American company so will need to find something similar here.

Would you recommend any local bridal shops? I've been hearing good things about 50 Shades of White in St Ives - it's a new family run bridal shop.

Are you able to say what you both have gone for your wedding dress?

I am going to be so gutted once the wedding has been & gone, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought!

So sorry I forgot to mention about Cambridge wedding venues - we've only really looked in the Suffolk area. Do you have any in mind atm?

What kind of thing would you like - I'll have a little look!

What date are you getting married?

Ohh, I love the first dress too! I'm not sure on bridal shops in the area but I always seem to see Fleur de Lys mentioned! I haven't tried any dresses on yet either so but I would love to get one made for me!

I've looked at all of the wedding venues in Cambridge - literally about 15-20 venues. Unfortunately the ones I like are too restricted with either high corkage fees (it's Cambridge), music has to go off at 11.30 or they're fully booked. I think I'm going to look elsewhere and maybe hire a coach for guests.

I've been looking at a few bridal blogs for inspiration, mainly http://www.beforethebigday.co.uk/ which could give you some extra wedding ideas!
