Uplighting?

ExpensiveBrownDiamonds1257, 1 February, 2016 at 16:50 Posted on Planning 0 8

Is anyone considering using uplighting in their venue? A DJ we're interested in offers a package where uplighting is half priced if you book along with a DJ service. If our venue was a glamorous ballroom I would absolutely get uplighting but I'm a little less sure about it since our venue has more of a rustic vibe. The only thing we could do would probably be amber lighting, like in the photos below. The ceiling height of our venue is somewhere in between the examples in the photos. Not low, but not cathedral ceilings either.

We get up lights free with the dj, so we're having some in the bar area and some on the dance floor. Our venue is a village hall with reasonable ceiling height. I think you're venue would look great with some, but just as nice without as it already has heaps of character.

If you think it's a good deal, go for it.

We have a barn venue which obviously is rustic and are having uplighters going up the beams on the walls. I have seem them in situ and looks good, but we are just going to have a plain white lights as we are having a neutral colour theme.

I'm a wedding photographer and recommend uplighting to my couples. However, amber is not particularly good because of the skin tone problems it causes. My favourite is electric blue. Red is best avoided.

It can transform a dark venue. I think it's the cheapest way of improving any venue!

We're having uplighting as part of our DJ package. Our venue is quite a plain village hall so hoping it'll jazz it up a bit! X

We are also having uplighters as part of our DJ package - its not included as standard but was a reasonable amount to bolt on top.

Our colour scheme is Royal Blue so we are having the same colour uplighters.

From the pictures we've seen it looks good and bring the room together a bit more but thats just what I've seen from pics at our venue that has had them x

I think amber would work well in a darker venue (like your two pictures) but as you get towards a warm white colour in the uplighters, in a room that's a bright room generally - i.e. lighter coloured walls, you might have too much light in the room for the evening dancing and you won't get as much atmosphere via your DJ's dance floor lighting.

Another thing to check would be if the uplighters being used actually have an amber diode. Many are just RGB (red, green and blue) and it's difficult to mix a good amber using those colours - you'll end up with a more yellow or orange. Others will add white RGBW but some will actually have an amber diode (RGBA) and give you a perfect amber.

Uplighters are a great idea, particularly to fit in with your colour scheme. However, as a wedding photographer I would suggest you avoid pink as it does something very weird to digital photos!
