Urgent cream carpet help needed please!

My H uses white spirits to get out any oily stuff (though faik has never used it on our carpets), I suppose it depends on the carpet, when we got ours they did say we could use bleach on it but I have never been brave enough to try

Thanks for that, funnily enough the carpet guys are coming back tomorrow to fix a couple of bits so I know I should wait and speak to them, but have a desire to do it now! It is a wool carpet if that makes any difference

Not sure about the wool, I think I would force myself to wait until tomorrow, especially since I'm assuming this is right up the middle of the stairs. Can you find the carpet online? It might have some cleaning advice on there.

Don't do what I did and use a spot carpet cleaner (like Vanish or such) without testing it some inconspicuous first. I spilt hot chocolate at the bottom of the stairs and where I used the carpet cleaner I now have a large pale patch there like it stripped the cream colour from the carpet. Cat puked at the top of the stairs the other day and though I've cleaned it with a mild disinfectant I'm just going to get the professional carpet cleaners in in case I bleach it again.

Thanks both of you, you are right and I will leave it alone. Its not too bad but will drive me nuts as it is only a few weeks old!
