Urgent help needed please

kellynicol, 28 March, 2012 at 16:53 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi Ladies,

I could really do with some ideas from everyone please. I'm struggling.

My partner and I have recently got engaged and want to tie the knot before the end of the year. We want a registry office wedding but don't want to do it in our local area. We both have a child each and really want just the four of us to go away for the weekend and get married. We have discussed Gretna Green as an option but really like the idea of a seaside location where we can do some sightseeing and "family" stuff while we are there.

Does anyone know of a nice registry office that will satisfy our wishes for some pretty family photos but also considering we would like a holiday location?

Kelly x

I can't recommend anywhere in particular but it's worth looking into the requirements in terms of giving notice before you make any firm plans. I think each borough has a different scheme so it sounds like there's lots to think about.

    Good luck.

Brighton Town Hall looks lovely, but if you're looking for a bit more family stuff to do in the local area how about Winchester. It's less than an hour to Bournemouth and the New Forest is close too.

The Guildhall in Poole looks nice. Try doing a google image search for it. I haven't been to Poole but I've had it recommended to me. It looks to have lots to do!

    Hi Kelly,

    Congratulations on your engagement ?

I can't help with locations but I am getting married out of our area and can tell you that, even if you book another registry office, then you still have to give notice at your local one in the normal way and they will pass on all the paper work to your choosen registry office.

    Hope it helps,

    L x

I used to live in Horsham and I don't think that's what you're looking for to be honest. It's a nice town but it's not got anything special other towns don't have and it's not close to the seaside. I wouldn't say it's great for sightseeing or anything inparticular.

How about Bournemouth? The beach is lovely there and there's a bit more to do - there's a sealife centre. Or Poole or Portsmouth? I used to live in Portsmouth too and they have more sightseeing things to do. There's the sealife centre, fair and amusements on the beach, the spinnaker tower and lots of family navy/ship related things to see and do. There's also gunwharf quays outlet shopping.

    Blackpool?

Not sure what the registry office is like but lots of fun things to do with the kids and by the sea.

Coldstream - gorgeous looking registry office in the borders and is the East cost equivalent of Gretna!

I have the contact details for the registrar if you want them. We have to get married on the way down to York as Humaist weddings aren't legal in England - we're thinking Eyemouth (family there) or Coldstream (mush prettier venue).

You're close to Eyemouth and that area for seaside stuff. Potadoodle if you fancy camping in a wigwam and you're not too far from Edinburgh either.

Torbay looks quite nice. There seems to be different rooms to use for different prices.

If you can find a nice registry office in the north east, the coast line there is lovely. Similarly for norfolk.

I know 2 couples who have got married at Whitby registry office and have spoke quite highly of it. Their photo's looked lovely and Whitby's a nice place with plenty to do for the children.
