If he wont go to the GP, ring them and explain why and request a home visit stating that he has already refused to go to hospital.
A lot of teams request that such referals go through primary care initially, but i dont know what area you are in so can not advice further.
If the GP thinks further action is needed, they will make the necessary arrangements for an assessment.

If you think he is in harm of hurting himself or others, call the police, who can remove him to a place of safety and access the MH assessment that way.

    Hi ClaireBecky,

The crisis team have already been involved a year ago but he talked his way out of it. The main issue is that he does not want help from anyone and he will tell anyone that everything is fine - except for his family.

When I got there he was at the door telling the paramedics that he had just tried to cancel it as he didnt want their time wasted

Bohemian Raspberry I have not had any mail yet - do you have msn?

    Is somebody with him?

Is the threat serious or is it a cry for help?

My advice would be to spend some time talking to try and ascertain whether he genuinely has a serious notion of harming himself, the risk being, if he is just feeling low and having a drama day... (does happen) he could end up sectioned if professionals become involved.

That said, if he is serious, it may very well be for the best.

Me.... If anyone ever talks to me about it I tend to ask them if they're positive there isn't a soul/spirit/any form of afterlife (remarkably few people will swear to it). And then point out that if there is.... It might very well be worse than where you are now...

    YMMV

I think thats probably the most misguided and stupid advice i ve ever read on this website.

as for "it may very well be for the best". well, words fail me.

That was my initial reaction, but then I thought maybe the "for the best" bit might mean if he has seriously reached that stage then he can get professional help, and that's for the best.
Or maybe it was meant the way it read.

Not sure why that is, I've tried twice now to PM you. I haven't got msn at the minute as I'm at work but I'll be on once I get home around 6:30ish if that's okay?
