Vaccinations for Jamaica?

Cheeky Chops, 2 March, 2009 at 21:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Hubbie and I are off to Jamaica in 6 weeks - do we need vaccinations? I am getting mixed information when I google it.

Any ideas?

I've never had any vaccinations for anywhere in the Caribbean

disclaimer - this doesn't mean you shouldn't, just that I never have.

Ask your doctor, but https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/jamaica.htm says you might need some.

I wouldnt leave it so late to check tbh as some places need vaccinations that start 3 months before you go.

You will probably need a tetanus booster (I didn't as I had a booster in my teens so now 100% up to date) and possibly Hep A - it's a minor risk but it's lifetime protection so they may want to do it. You also need to be up to date on all your UK standards. You need to contact your GP ASAP as they need done a certain amount of time before you go - they will advise based on your records what you should have.
