vacum cleaners

murphy88, 4 February, 2014 at 15:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

Boring post what vacuum cleaner do you have? We don't have a massive budget but looking online there's to much choice.

The house is quiet big so needs to have stamina and we eventually want a dog so something good with hair.

Our henry hoover has lasted an age and does well getting up dog hair too, can pick them up for about £100, and you can get replacement hose /filters etc cheap on amazon later down the line. Dyson are really good, my mum has one, but much more pricey

I think buying a cheap one is a bit of a false economy. We bought a £50 Henry Hoover style one from Asda and it's rubbish. We've had it a year and the hose is about to break. It doesn't do too bad a job in general and with dog care but the hoover operator of the household (not me) has his eye on a Dyson. I couldn't care less!.....

We've got a dyson ball up right. I know some people hate them but I think it's brilliant. Does all the different floors in the house no problem.

Unfortunately they are expensive, we paid around £200 on special offer a couple of years ago

Maybe I should ask one for a wedding gift hehe... seriously though why are Hoover's expensive? I wouldn't mind forking out if it's a good one...why did we buy a big house!!

Another vote for dyson - worth the cost, especially if you have pets. You might be able to pick one up on ebay or similar.

Another vote for a dyson ball here, expensive but much better than the cheaper ones we've had which continualy broke or didn't pick up half as effectively.

We've got a dyson ball animal, we've had it at least 5 years and it's still going strong. It's way better than any other vacuum I've ever had.

We've got a Hoover animal blue thing which we got cheap in b and m. Had it 18 months and with two moulting cats it does the trick! No problems yet and I use it at least three times a week.

We have 2 dysons, an upright and a handheld cordless one. The cordless one was my Christmas present this year (I did ask for it, H protested at the rubbish ness of the gift, but it's what I wanted.) It's amazing, it was pricey at £350, but it's so quick and easy to use, which with a cat and a toddler creating mess is a necessity.

Miele cat and dog! It's a beast. Picks up every little bit of fur on my floors. Beats my ex-dyson hands down

We have a Miele too and it's bloody amazing! We have the power plus, which is the same as the cat and dog one but without the hair attachment. We bought it as it did better than Dyson in the Which reviews. It's suction power is ridiculous! Plus it's got loads of little attachments and a hard floor surface bit. It's honestly the best vacuum I've ever owned. Worst one was an actual Hoover, terrible.

We used to have a Miele cat and dog and it was dire!! Three times it went for fixing and three times it seemed to come back worse!! We gave up in the end and bought a dyson animal (after having our previous dyson before the Miele for about 8 years!) and it's hundreds of times better! They are more expensive but in our case we got what we paid for, I know not everyone has had the same experience but with four dogs it does pretty well!!

We had one of the older dyson's (the first version). It doesn't work properly now as a hoover, but I keep it for the nozzel which does still work.

We got one of those cordless air-ram hoovers for Christmas and we love it.

I would recommend Miele, very good make at a reasonable cost. Dysons are ridiculously overpriced.

Dyson all the way. We got ours for about £200 in a promotion and I love it.

Didn't realise what a crap job my old vax was doing - the carpets were a different colour with the dyson.

I hate hate hate my henry. Well its a hetty. It gets stuck on door frames, the hose twists, if I pull too hard it falls backwards, its heavy, and just generally a cruddy design.
It is hard wearing. My BIL uses one in his job as a decorator and it cleans up everything.
I hate them though. Desperate for a new one.

I love my hetty! She's beautiful, she's quiet and she copes with anything 3 kids and 3 cats throw at her. She has eyelashes! what more could you want from a vacuum cleaner?

Also absolutely hated the henry (it was bought for us as a present otherwise I would have taken it back). It got stuck on everything and was a real pain to use on the stairs. How the hell can anyone store one neatly as well? THe hoses all get in the way and it just looks constantly untidy. Cost over £100 and broke within the year. Absolute piece of junk and I was so pleased to get rid of it. I've now got a Morphy Richards which I love. I can disconnect the cylinder and motor from the hoover body and walk it up the stairs - much easier. My one would probably be a bit small for your house by the sound of it!

At the moment we have a Miele which is pretty good, but it has bags and I hate bags!!! I loved my dyson animal to distraction but yes, they are expensive and it wasn't an option when we needed a new one. If you have the money, go for it x

Another vote for dyson here, my last one lasted me 10 years so it was money well spent. Got another dyson and OH uses old one to clean the car out. The pipe had just split so he just shortened it.

See I've gone back to bags with the Miele and don't get the hatred over bags. It's such an easy bag to change, and no dust clouds emptying it into the bin like my old Hoover. I think Henry vacuums are so heavy and huge!

I have a Panasonic MC-UL592. It's good - not too heavy, easy to empty and does a good job.

My thoughts exactly. They hurt my back! They are awkward and assisted Mr Erin in mangling the skirting boards / door frames at our last place. I am jealous of the female version with eye lashes. Very cute!

I will watch this thread with interest as we need a new hoover.

Ours has been getting worse for a while but yesterday when we got a new carpet fitted and went to hoover up the fluff it had lost all suction capability together!

So.. today we bought this one. And so far, I love it! https://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=209865
