Valentines Day?

SaSaSi, 11 February, 2013 at 10:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

Is anyone doing anything nice?

We were away last wkend staying in Belfast, went to a nice restaurant & a comedy club & that was our present to each other.

On Thursday I am going to cook - thinking chicken/ steak, chips, tobacco onions & pepper sauce - and have a local girl delivering cupcakes (I know I could make them mysef but hers are amazing & she was doing a V day offer). Going to open a bottle of bubbly too (I counted 4 bottles in the cupboard last night!).

We dont really do gifts anymore - the days of jewellery and getting roses delivered to work have lost out to countless household bills & mortgage!

Yep, we're off out for dinner at our favourite restaurant, we went there last year also. Prior to that we used to go away for spa break/castle stay/Paris, but finances have meant that we couldn't get away the last couple of years.

We're fairly romantic all year round though, I just love an excuse for a posh meal ?

Nope we won't do anything. We never do really!

I may go and buy myself flowers on Friday though when they are all 70% off - *Saddo*

We'll do cards but agreed no pressies this year and will save the money for a nice day out later in the year.

We dont really - just a card. Mainly because our wedding anniversary is the 5th Feb so we celebrate that more but we are off to Le Manoir on saturday so could be anniversary/valentines, we have champagne ordered for the hotel room.

hubby is also flying back from Amsterdam on valentines evening, I will probably cook him a nice meal but maybe not as he will be completely knackered!

I remember our first valentines, it was a nightmare - we were at the bar waiting for our table & they forgot about us! By time we were sitting down to eat I was half winged & not interested in eating at all! More fool us So ever since I'd rather go out another time ie last wkend.

Oh yes I forgot about cards - I'd be a very angry wife if I didnt get a card! OH picks lovely cards.

    Ashill - Happy anniversary!

We literally do not do anything. No cards, no presents, no "happy Valentine's Day".

We have rehearsal then we'll eat beans on toast or pasta like we do every Thursday after rehearsal!

That is rubbish, no wonder you stay in now!

It's our local Italina and they are lovely and always look after us. They stay reasonably priced too, it's £25pp for a glass of prosecco, three courses, and coffee ?

    Nothing for us.

It's always manic at this time of year so we generally spend valentines facing opposite directions on the computer!

To be honest, if we had nothing on we'd probably not make much of an effort anyway. A film or a bit of telly will do for me.

Slightly jealous of the lovely sounding meals though ☹️

H buys me flowers most weeks anyway so this week will be no different. I will expect a card (or there will be trouble).

To be honest, as we both get home from work quite late, we are having our Valentines Meal at home on Saturday. Not sure yet what to cook.

I have got him a card cause I saw it and it is funny.

Not fussed if we do anything or not- we usually use it as an un needed excuse to eat and drink to excess.

Every year he makes a fuss about it, flowers, choclates, dinner every year I forget and look like a right scrouge.

I have brought him cookies this year that say I love you and he said to me this morning that we should just stick to cards. Now I have to go buy a card. bugger

I don't know if I've mentioned before but Thursday is my birthday. Did I mention that already? ?

Found out that the meal hubby has planned is the M&S 2 dine for £20! I am extremely excited about this! Then we're off to the cinema to watch Die Hard!!!

THIS!!!! I just don't get it at all. If he bought me something it wouldn't mean anything as he would have been forced into it.

Aww, I don't agree. I don't celebrate Valentine's Day either, because I think it's commercialised pooh. But, if hubby did buy me something, I wouldn't think it worthless just because it's Valentine's day. After all, he's still gone out and personally chosen a present/card. Just like he would on birthdays & Christmas.

We are doing cards (which I need to go out and buy at lunch!)

OH is also lucky in that we are staying in a hotel on Thursday night before flying off to Berlin the next morning. This is all in aid of Christmas/my birthday but he thinks it's going to make him look extra romantic with no extra effort!

Maybe that came across as a bit harsh but I would prefer him to do something out of the blue on another day (and also it would be alot cheaper!)

Yes we do usually make a fuss, I cook dinner and set the table nice, exchange gifts etc. Then we go out for a meal the weekend when all the silly set themed menus have gone. But.. he's in the doghouse so we shall see. I have already bought presents/cards/ordered food and wine last week though.

We only do cards. However, this year I may get flowers since OH didn't get me any for St Dwywen's day, which we celebrate more. We are going away this weekend, but it won't be romantic. Winter climbing and sleeping in the campervan!

I could take care of the food and wine for you ?

I have bought a card, just in case H does. I’m not interested, but I don’t want to be caught out.

Previous years I have had a card and a single red rose (and always gave a card back), last year we had other things on our minds so it passed by (I think I may have made biscuits), this year I don’t care.

We've never celebrated V day, not even cards. I'm actually going out to the ballet that night with my Mum and Godmother. It's my birthday on the 17th so we always do something nice then anyway.

We just do cards & I sometimes get a very sad looking bunch of flowers (H knows I feel sorry for the rubbish looking ones & like to give them a home ? )

This year we're sooooo broke, I think I'm going to nick the kids' art supplies & make him a card!

Going to buy our wedding rings, because we are all lovey dovey lol

then a home made meal loads of little starters with a bottle of wine on a big picnic blanket in our front room with lots of candles.

We like celebrating valentines day as we rarely get the chance to be romantic.

Then its one year till we get married ?

..............yes were getting married on valentines day. lol
