Valentines wedding help

KEG, 14 August, 2008 at 15:37 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hi all, havent been on for a while, busy working etc, planning!

I am a bit stuck, getting married next valentines day, small civil do at 4.30pm, for 50, then a party in the eve, theme is black and fushia, also gold.

Having a hard time visioning the civil room, and how to dress it up, any suggestions, I was thinking of hiring seat covers for the room, cant think what else, Im also am trying to tie in the valentines theme, without it being cheesey! Men will be in dickie bows, and its evening dress, any ideas.

Also I have bought a shed load of love hearts, I wanted these as favours, but now not sure on them, would you put them in glass bowls for guests to help themselves, or I was thinking of getting labels printed with our names and the date on, what do we think!

Hit a bit of a wall! Any help/ideas appreciated!!?

I'm sure someone can tell me if I'm wrong, but aren't you only in the room for a matter of 10 mins for your ceremony, I think I'd be saving my money for decorating the reception venue rather than spending out on chair covers etc. Just have some red flowers/candles around perhaps.

Hiya, I have been looking out for any posts from yourself, to see if you had any ideas.

I cant believe its only 6mths to go! Flowers, balloons organised, photographer, band for the eve, my dress is getting made, need to have a meeting with the venue about food and booze, need to get my flower girls dress, um cant think of much else at the mo.

Just running a bit low on ideas at the mo, dont know why, oh invites have been designed by my mum, so need to make them, hows about you? ?

    Hiya KEG,

We're also having personalised lovehearts. Great minds think alike! I was going to put them in favour bags with a BHF pin.

I am starting to panic a bit, because its a late wed we were going to have a hot buffet and drinks for the 50 in the ceremony, then a cold buffet for the afters, I have bought shed loads of love hearts I was going to put them on the tables in the eve do, but thinking will they look crab just strewn all over the place? Just found out today also, my wed dress maker cant get the material I wanted for my corset top has been discontinued, she said not too panic, but since planning the wedding it has been marred with probs, my handmade engagement ring from Venice, got re-sized in Wales and fell too bits, so had to have a new one made! The SIL and FIL have refused to come because we have decided on the no kids rule, due to space, late wed, plus we dont have or want kids, so decided on it for our day.

Hay hoo anyway, hopefully no other probs will arise! I am excited, but scared with what else will go wrong!

I am sure the love hearts will look fine like that, or you could put them in a goldfish bowl as a centre piece? That was my other option...

It does sound like you have had a run of bad luck eh? But that can only mean things will get better!

Seeing as we're only getting married a week apart I wonder whether we're getting married in a similar area? I am getting married in Norfolk.

How are your plans going, any themes etc?

Whoops KEG I was mixing you up with someone else! My wedding is summer next year - it must be someone else who is a week away from me! ?

Obviously my brain stops working at the end of the week! So far I have been pretty rubbish about themes, at the moment I am thinking red gold and ivory - I am worried it's a bit Christmassy but I think I'll do it anyway!

So did you decide if you going to get personalised loveheart labels? Are you going to get them from www.lovehearts.com? They seem expensive but I think I might risk it for a biscuit.

No probs! your user name did confuse me with a winter/spring wedding!

The colurs sound lovely, a friend of mine is having them colours, I think the colours represent the person not the season, so go for it!

I did price them, I do have a local printers who are printing my invites, so am going to get a price of them, if they can/are allowed to do that!

I actually got them from wilkinsons, just after this valentines day, exp date late next year, 4 pk for large tubes was 30p I think!

I think we have about 100 odd tubes upstairs for about a tenner, if I remember right, I just remember it was dirt cheap!!!

We also bought a shed load of gold candles for 3p each I think, dirt cheap shop!!?

Hi ya KEG- sorry havent been about much latelyto reply. Yes i am well organised so far...got harp for church, reception, band, photogrpaher, videographer, cars, dresses, suits etc... sorted. Im not sure what 2 do for favours...i got wee old organza bags off ebay and mite put foiled choccie love heart in it. I was at a wedding recently & they had wee mini packs of lovehearts, they wer great crack...we wer charing them around the table and laughed so hard that my stomach hurt...so i may just have to have them, lol. i was conidering naming my tables after valentiny things, e.g. cupid, love heart, rose etc... Or condiering i am having 10 tables, i may use letters per table. e.g. V. A. L. E. N. T. I. N. E. S. My soloist is singing- 'The Rose', Im having roses in my bouquet/flowers etc... think that's the only themed things im doind really!!!

Some gorge pics there thanks, Cant wait to start making my invites now!

Any ideas for the ceremony room, I'm getting married in a hotel, only 50 peeps, my fella is going to make a heart arch for us, which I think I will cover in fairy lights, but cant think how to dress the aisle or seats for the guests, I was going to hire chair covers but as one hitcher suggested it might be a waste of money for only 15 mins in the room, help!?

The hotel is right opposite the beach, with a great big window, which we would like to incorporate somehow???

You could use some fabric to match in and outline the window and add some lights to it maybe sit the table there to sign the register would be a nice piccie... if the chairs in the ceremony are in keeping without having to be covered you could use sashes to be in keeping with the theme by all means mail me and we can chat if it helps.. you could have hearts in willow decorated with flowers to hang on the ends bit like pews or bows in organza with hearts to match your theme???

Hello there - what a romantic theme!

What about having Swarovski hearts as pendants for you and your bridesmaids, plus matching earrings?

Have a look on my site for some ideas:

Wow! I love the room with the twigs hanging from the ceilings, that is so my fella and myself, oh I might have to look into something like that!

I love the heart centre pieces too, esp the roses, and I love the sound of the willow in the window decorated, oh I feel quite inspriational now, esp as my fella is quite handy with drift wood and twigs!

    Thanks ladies!?

Hi, with being on a bit of a tight budget, my plan is to get the table flowers from a supermarket, which my dad works for, my mum and I are going to do them the night before, I have odered my bouquet from a florist, having three trumpet lilies, which will cost approx £40, the florist was banging on how expensive flowers will be, if your handy with arranging them, is this an idea for you??

Thanks for th reply KEG although i dont think i would be very good at arranging them as well as not having very much time. i had considered silk flowers but i got a sample & it wasn't quite what i expected. I think im going to just get 1 brides bouqet, 2 bridesmaid, 1 church (rather than 2), 10 simple centre pieces & my bright idea just to have a buttonhole for my h2b...still costing over £700 though
