Vegas for £1k?

KB3, 5 May, 2009 at 13:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

My sister is thinking of surprising her boyfriend with a trip to Las Vegas for his 30th this year. Trouble is, she only works part time due to having a child and saving could be difficult. She has worked out she could save £1000 for the cost of the trip.

Is £1000 enough to pay for a 3 day trip to Las Vegas? Is 3 days enough time or would 4 be better? (She doesn't want to leave daughter for too long).

Any cheap & cheerful places to stay you could recommend?

TIA ?

ETA: The £1000 is for flights & accommodation only. His parents will give them spends (lucky things!)

I have been looking into vegas lately and for £1k you could probably get a week for two, inc flights

Yes, I think it's do-able. You might not stay in the best hotel and it might not be direct flights but you can definitely do it for under £1K.

What time of year is she looking at?

I wouldn't go for anything short of 4 days. It is a long flight and wouldn't be worth it.

I reckon if she sourced her flights and hotel on the net herself, she would probably be able to do it for £1200. This is obviously dependent on travel dates, as obviously the cheapest flights are outside school hols/christmas/new year etc...

I think Circus Circus is quite reasonably priced and well located, but I am sure there are cheaper hotels, just not sure how nice they are!

    hth!

    Sorry, pressed too soon.

If she goes mid week it'll work out much cheaper as well. And I've just remembered I think we got our Bellagio rooms for just over £100 a night. Plus Virgin are doing some great deals on flights so she could potentially go direct and still stay at a decent hotel so ignore my last e-mail ?. 3 nights is probably enough because you generally land in Vegas early afternoon and leave mid afternoon so you'd get 2 full days and a bit each side.

Lois - where have you been looking? I've not seen anything like that myself.

Clare - His birthday is 11th December which is a Friday so she's thinking out 10th back 13th or 14th. I will have a quick search on Virgin now for flights. RE hotels, does she need to contact them directly for best deals? Any recommendations on websites or the like?

TBH As long as they can put their head down somewhere clean I doubt she'll be too fussed. He'll probably be gmabling 24hours anyhow ?

No disrespect to sweetcheeks but do not suggest Circus Circus to her. The location is terrible, she'll have to walk for ages to get anywhere. She'll want to stay somewhere much more central. I've heard good things about Monte Carlo which is meant to be pretty well priced and it's centre of the strip.

It's worth going direct with Bellagio because they're not that much more expensive than the other websites and you'll always getting a better room if you book direct (well, that we've found). However, a good website to check with is netflights.com.

A quick search on that website Lois brings up loads of options for under £1000. I've emailed her the link. Flights are indirect which could be a pain for a 3day trip but worth investigating.

Clare, the Bellagio is $387 for 3 nights, bargain!

Another cheap hotel that is very central on the strip is the Imperial Palace. The mothership has stayed a few times and says it's fine - not as luxurious as some, but clean and a great location.

Imperial Palace is coming up number 3 on the search from Lois website link. Good to know, thank you.

As others have said it's definitely do-able. We've just booked 10 nights in Paris, Las Vegas for £600 each and that includes a direct flight on the return home.

After much searching I found the cheapest place to book was Travelocity.

I agree with Mrs Winkle that Imperial Palace is probably your best 'cheap' hotel on the Strip. The Flamingo isn't too bad either. Apparently their renevated 'GO' rooms are supposed to be good.
