Vegetarian dinner party?

Oh Zippy, 21 November, 2008 at 18:20 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Hi all. What do you tend to cook for a vegetarian dinner party meal? My mind has gone pretty blank. In the past I've cooked veggie lasagne, vegetable fajitas, wild mushroom pasta.... I'm looking for new ideas.

Thanks

Hmmm, mushroom risotto could do it.

Sorry to be dim, but what's BNS?

There's a nice early Jamie stuffed BNS, called something like Hamilton squash or something, if you know anyone with Happy days with the naked chef. I could type out for you if you need it, but not till monday, as am about to be very drunk and then away.

I don't have a recipe for it but someone I know cooked a carrot and chickpea tagine (in a slow cooker) once and it tasted fantastic.

    Thanks everyone! :o)

H won't eat tagine - or at least won't since he got very ill in Morocco.

I've found the squash recipe on the internet - looks promising. In fact, I've saved that to do one day anyway.

H is also now considering doing an veggie indian meal (I'm not convinced (too much faff when guests arrive?) but as long as he's the chef!!)

Ooh, Mrs Magic, that's a great idea. A bit more 'prepare it in advance' too.

    thank you :o)

    Go greek:

    - pittas+tatziki, hummus, tarama (if fish is on the menu)

    - great olives

    - stuffed vine leaves/dolmades (in cans from supermarket/deli)

    - falafel

    - greek salad

    - grilled halloumi

    - courgette and aubergine slices lightly battered and fried if you still need more....

...a veritable feast and a doddle to prepare (you can buy the falafel if you can't be arsed to make your own).

What about stuffed mushrooms as a starter?

Use the biggest mushrooms you can find. remove the stalk. Chop it finely along with some more normal sized mushrooms. Mix in garlic and herb soft cheese, soy sauce and fresh parsley, put mixture into big mushroom tops sprinkle with parmesan and bake in the oven until golden. Yummy!
