Veil advice

DreamcatcherVN, 7 August, 2016 at 20:21 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi everyone!

Just after some opinions :-)

I have ordered my dress, which I love and am very happy with but I'm not sure what to do about a veil. I always wanted to wear a veil but the dress I have chosen has some beautiful lace detail at back/across the shoulders and I feel as though a veil would cover this up (the front is a little plain so I would like people to see what detail there is!). I'm now torn because not wearing a veil isn't what I imagined and I worry I won't feel like a bride without one! I was thinking of maybe having a veil for just the ceremony but it seems like a lot of money to pay for something that I'll only wear for an hour or so!

What are your thoughts?

Thank you!

I think you should try one. If it was very sheer, maybe one layer I think you I'll still see the detail. A lot of ladies have used pink Margaret on Facebook who makes gorgeous veils at a fraction of bridal shop prices.

That's a lovely dress ?, and I think the details is heavy enough to be seen through a single layer without too much gathering. Only way to see how you feel is try it with one. Can you go back to the shop and try the dress with a few different length options?

I made my veil - pattern would be about £7 and net from ebay less than a fiver. Cheap comb (couple of quid from ebay again) to sew it to, and hey presto, one veil for less than £20. Depends how confident you are with a needle and thread, but it was minimal sewing - just 2 rows of gathering.

I have a Pink Margaret one. I agree that a single tier plain veil will still show the detail through. If you could source a cheap enough one then you wouldn't feel so guilty about only wearing it for the ceremony. That is what I was planning on doing, but I love it so much I don't think anyone is going to be able to rip it off my head all night!! Smiley smile.

Pink Margaret made my veil - and it was amazing! Her prices are very reasonable so definitely contact her on Facebook and see what she can do for you - she was lovely!

I would 100% try one on with your dress even to confirm you don't want one, otherwise there'll always be that niggling doubt. To be fair mine only lasted the church and a few photos at the reception, so it may be nice to have it for half the day during "formal" shots then lose it and let the detail show off during the evening. Kinda 2 n 1 style.
