Veil help

Pipsybus, 29 August, 2014 at 17:11 Posted on Planning 0 16

Ladies can you point me in the right direction to look for veils? I didn't think I wanted one but yesterday when I tried my dress on I tried a few different styles and I actually really loved the full length one. Any ideas on price would be great cos I left the shop without checking what they cost!

Those of you having veils, are you having it over your face for the ceremony or just one that looks pretty and hangs down the back?

I'm having a full length one that just hangs from the back - it is a double layer, but quite sheer with a bit of subtle sparkle. I didn't want it to detract from the back of my dress, but I also wanted it to be noticed.

Mine is costing £150 which I know is a lot for something that is an extra, but I loved it, and so went for it. There are plenty of people on hitched who have bought successfully from ebay....knowing my luck, though, I would end up with Auntie Edna's net curtain.....

I didn't think I wanted a veil either. But when I tried one on last time I was in the shop, it made me feel like a proper bride!

I bought mine today from somewhere called jjshouse online. I heard about them and they are supposed to be good. The prices are very reasonable. I got an elbow length veil with beading to the edges and on the back for $16.99 or whatever that is in English. I only ordered it today, so I don't know yet what it will be like quality wise, but it looked very pretty on the website.

The price and quality vary a lot! You can get £10 ones off ebay that feel like cheap net curtains. Or you can go high end and splurge on something like Emmerling. For me, it would be Emmerling because your daughter may not fit or suit your dress, but she will grow up admiring your Emmerling veil!

I used a lady called pink margaret. I think someone else posted a thread with her email address on it recently. She was lovely and so helpful. Great quality veil and very reasonable.

I think i paid about £35 and it had little pearls on it. It wasn't super long though. The ones i tried in the shop were all well over £250 which i thought was extortion for a bit of material.

I had my veil over my face. I wasn't planning to, but my OH said he'd love to be able to put the veil back when I get to the front of the aisle as he thought it would be an 'intimate' moment. Bless him... I wasn't bothered so i went go along with it.

Looks good in the pictures as you can't see my ugly mug clearly ;-)

I've always wanted to wear a veil and as it's the only time I'll have a chance, I decided to go for it.

Mine was from and american etsy seller called Alisa Brides. Cost £154 (ish!) for a single lenth chapel length veil, with lace detailing around the bottom edge, plus some pearl beading. It took me ages to figure out the type of lace on my dress, and then even longer to find the type of veil I was looking for!

Very happy with the service from that seller too, veil has arrived already, despite wedding not being until february! It's amazing quality and I can't wait to wear it.

I agree wiith the other posters who mention it is a lot to pay for an 'add-on' item, but hopefully it'll last many years and I can pass it on to future generations!

I have gone for a shoulder length one. I didn't think I would have one at all but the (very clever) sales lady popped it on all stealthy and it looked gorgeous! I'm wearing it down the back as my hair is really long so it's going to sit on top. It was about £160 from Candy Anthony.

I've just had a look at how much my veil was (I didn't ask at the time!) It was £29.50 from the bridal shop. Mine is just longer than shoulder length. I won't be wearing it over my face, but my dad wants it over my shoulders. I didn't want a veil at all, but my mum really wanted me to have one, and she cried and said it completed it when they put it on me, so that was decision made! As Paula says, a potential daughter is more likely to wear my veil and tiara so I wanted to spend the money and get ones that would keep. Especially as I'm 5ft 2 and my h2b is about 6ft 2 so I'm guessing any children we have will be too tall to wear my dress!

I got a fingertip, 2 tier veil with subtle pearlescent beading on the edges for about £60 from veils direct.

Fantastic quality and would highly recommend them as they have so many styles and let you design your own (like I did).

Sorry to hijack your thread but i'm last minute deciding on a veil :-/ i know my bridal shop have some in stock so i have that as an option, but does anyone know how long veils direct take to deliver? i couldn't find it on their website?

I also don't know what width to go for, i'm going to go for a elbow length one and wear it under my hair, i also know i want crystals round the edging and i can answer all other of their questions except the width, can any recommend or describe the differances?

Bump - has anyone used Light in the Box for veils? They have some really lovely chapel length veils that I like the look of, just a bit weary of quality as they are so cheap?

I used the wedding veil shop which was really good service and really fast. Bit more expensive than lightinthebox but cheaper than the bridal shops and the quality was really good - I wasn't sure what the quality would be like for the cheaper ones as saw some cheap ones in bhs that weren't great.
