veil help/opinions please (with flashes!)

21 October, 2013 at 20:24 Posted on Planning 0 15

I'm so confused! I've gone from not wanting a veil to really wanting one! But my dress is very detailed so I don't want to hide the back of it. I love the lace trim veils but worry they might be too much with the detailed dress? I've put photos of the sort of styles I like. I really like the long veils and chapel length too but I can't seem to imagine how they'd look with the dress. I'm going to book Pink Margaret to make it for me hopefully. What do you think would look good? I've also put my hair style inspiration photo on.

I would have thought a shorter veil would be lovely with that dress so not to cover up the detail at the back, although i'll be asking for veil advice myself at some point as i'm clueless with them so don't listen to me haha! That dress is beautiful btw!!

Beautiful! I'd say go for it..it's not everyday you get to wear one but you have to feel comfortable. The best thing would be to try some on with your dress and then you can see what styles and lengths look best or it may confirm that you really don't like them. X

    Stunning dress.

My view is that the veil would detract from your beautiful detailing and so I would go for a simple veil wiht such a detailed dress.

    My dress was very detailed

and so i went for more simple veil but will beautiful crystal drops

My friend had a beautiful lace dress with gorgeous lace on the shoulders/straps.

The veil she chose was lace trimmed but there was only a tiny bit of lace and it looked lovely. I'll see if I can find a pic of a similar one (a I'm not sure my friend would like me posting a pic of her without her knowledge).

I agree with Claire, you don't want a veil that's too fussy as you wouldn't want to detract from how pretty the dress detailing is.

    Gorgeous dress!

my dress is lace with lace cap sleeves (although it's not as detailed as yours) and I've gone for a long, lace trimmed veil. I thought it would be too much but the lace matches perfectly. With your dress though I think a simpler veil might work better. You might find that a long veil is better than a short one as if you got for a single tier or a very sheer fabric you should still be able to see the detail on your dress through the veil whereas a short veil will end half way down your back and distract from the detail (I hope that makes sense!)

i emailed pink Margaret but because I wanted a long lace trimmed veil she said it would cost her a lot to buy the lace and wouldn't be any cheaper than buying it from the dress shop. It's definitely worth asking her though.

I would go for a very plain veil and probably the same length as your dress, if you'll only wear it during the day anyway? I think any shorter will detract from the detail on the dress, as the edge of the veil will be either at your waist, bum or higher and that's where all the detail us. If you went for a very plain chapel length veil you'd still be able to see the detail through the dress and no detail would detract fro it.

    Lovely dress.

I wouldn't want to cover the back of that dress... I think it would look lovely with just a nice hair accessory (like a clip)

Agree - bu if you do want one I'd go for a plain one, maybe with a touch of sparkle if anything. The lace veil is gorgeous but too much with your chosen dress.

Yippee!! I have a dress twin! I'm going to be using my sister veil that she wore for her wedding a few years back. It's a double-layered elbow-length veil that has a few bits of sparkle on the edges. It's sheer enough so that all the back detail can be seen underneath it. Hopefully the picture below gives you some sort of idea. Also, I love what you are planning on doing with your hair - I'm in two minds as to do it all up or just half of it x

I like the veil on the right, as I think it would complement the dress lace without covering it too much and still showing the details of the skirt.

Would it be possible to go to the shop and try some veils with the dress on before you order yours? Might be an idea to see how you feel with the different choices Smiley smile

I like it with the flower detail but definitely see what you mean about it possibly being too much with the dress detail, so I'm going to vote right!
