Veil Question

ExpensivePinkCars201, 15 October, 2015 at 11:47 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi Everyone

I've bought my dress (Maggie Sottero - Emma ???) and have been struggling to find a veil. Finally found one by Heading Up Veils with just the right kind of lace appliqué and they can add the extra beading and pearls to make it perfect, HOWEVER... When I asked the company about different components of the veil, they said that the appliqué and beading is glued on not stitched.

The veil is 2 tier Cathedral Length hand gathered and sewn onto the comb and made from a really nice, lightweight English tulle but I'm worried about the glue causing discolouration before the wedding (21st May 2016) and then in the future as it costs £220 so I really want to be able to keep it as an heirloom.

So, am I worried over nothing or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks in advance!

Ooh I have no idea on that one but did you ask the shop about it or whether it could be ordered sewn on rather than glued on?

I know it would be lovely to be able to keep it but if it was the veil for me and perfectly what I wanted I would still go with it.

Yay! A dress twin! Great taste Smiley smile

Sounds like a beautiful veil. I would ask the shop if they can sew it on rather than glue, particularly as you'd like it to be an heirloom. I'd expect it to cost more though so prepare yourself for that.

    Best of luck with it!

If your veil budget is that size then have a look at Emmerling veils. They are really beautiful and may be in your price range.

A dress triplet! (I've got it with zip/buttons and the benita jacket over) Your veil sounds gorgeous but yes I'd be worried about it being glued on. Might be worth finding a couple of dress makers etc who might make veils and ask them?

My veil is plain, with a satin trim in a beautiful soft tulle.

Going to try it all on together with my shoes on 7th november! Smiley smile

    Thanks ladies!

Emma seems to be really popular but I'm not surprised as it's gorgeous! (Not that I'm biased or anything!), I'm wearing the cap sleeves for the ceremony with a simple pendant then going strapless for the evening with a statement necklace, love how I can get two looks for the price of one!

I'm considering getting the veil without the additional beading and buying some Swarovski crystals and pearls to sew on myself or by my lovely FMIL although she doesn't know it yet, haha! That should limit the glue content and might even work out cheaper!

I've had a look at other veils and the Emmerling website as suggested but I'm stuck on this one so I guess I'm in trouble! I'll see what the damage is to have the lace sewn on, if they can even do it... I'm confident that it should be fine for my wedding day but not so sure as an heirloom but who's to say my possible future daughter will even want it?!

Do you think the crystals would go straight onto the veil/appliqué or would the lace have to be removed from the veil first?

I love being able to ask all these questions, my H2B would have zero idea ???

I would imagine you would sew them straight on. It sounds lovely.

I have that jacket too! I haven't thought about the veil yet. I had no idea there was so much choice. Both of your veils sound so beautiful and will look incredible with the dress.

Did you get the zip back or lace up? I've got a photo of my original 'trying on' with their veil.. can't wait to see it with the zip back Smiley smile

The jacket I have is buttons. I need to get my dress altered but you get the idea (sorry its sideways, I can't make it go portrait!). I think I'll take the jacket off after the ceremony and put the straps on. A whole new look Smiley smile

Oooh I like that jacket! It's so nice to be able to get the two different looks isn't it?!

The dress seems to fit pretty well already, mine is massive at the top due to a butt/boob imbalance! Seamstress is going to have a heart attack!

I've just had a massive brainwave! My dress has to be taken in A LOT. If I bought a plain veil, do you think the seamstress could take the leftover lace appliqué and attach it to the veil? I don't want full on lace trim, just about six small pieces I think. It would have the right amount of sparkle and match my lovely Emma exactly!

I can't wait to ring the seamstress on Monday as I think it would be just perfect!

The seamstress actually makes veils! She can make the veil from scratch and even has some spare Emma from previous alterations to make sure there is enough!

I'm so pleased but now I have to let the lady at the shop I was originally going to get the veil from and has been running around to answer all of my questions that I'm not getting a veil from her anymore ?
