Veils

josephine, 20 May, 2013 at 07:19 Posted on Planning 0 11

I went dress shopping on Saturday, and found one I liked. It remains to be seen whether it can be ordered in time - I am waiting for the call today. In curiosity I tried it on with a veil - it was a two tier, that just sat at the back of my head reaching the middle of my back and I was really surprised how much I liked it - it felt really pretty.

So, providing I can have this dress, I might get a veil but I am a little worried about the symbolism of it. It won't be covering my face but I am not virginal, nor religious, nor am I looking to hide or veil myself, and I think I feel a bit uncomfortable with the idea of it. Has anyone else had these reservations? Am i being silly over what is now merely an aesthetic choice? Any thoughts?

    Hi,Josephine

Go ahead to get what you want...That doesn't matter.

No strict requirements about the choice of veil.

No matter these veils are short like this one(quite cute, and matchable for short bridal gown)

Or as you described, you prefer the middle length, like this one

I found a quite gorgeous and unique one

all of them are workable, but please make sure the veil will go well with your dress.??

I can't decide at all whether I want a veil, due to a November wedding I am looking at hair up and every style i've seen involves a low side bun of some kind, which is making me lean towards NOT having a veil, but I tried one on with my dress on saturday and i kind of liked it... just not enough to make a decision!

Er,,,I know just how you feel, when I go shopping,I always change my idea and get some thing originally I do not plan to purchase.

From my experience, cooling down for several days will be better,or taking advice from your close friend. The most important thing is,you should get the bridal dress firstly and then decide if you need a veil or not.

In this way, your choices will be narrowed,if you still want one veil then, you will make a choice easily by trying on different styles, and find out the most beautiful and charming one that goes perfectly with your dress...hha?

Remember that it is only over your face for those 30 seconds when you walk down the aisle, the rest of the time it will be over and on your shoulders. I have some info and pictures HERE that may give you some ideas. I am a veil fan

I am having a veil. Do brides normally keep the veil on all day and night? The back of my hair is going to be quite pretty so I'd like to take it off at some point but I'm not sure when?

Sometimes I see the bride get "fed up" with it and its out before the meal. That is usually when it has not been put in properly and keeps falling out, I end up putting it in properly for her. Have a look at my link to info on veils, it may help.

Some people like to keep it in for the eve guests to see what you looked like in full. And then take it out to party !

I have to agree that a veil really does make you feel prettier and I think Ames the outfit whole. I am a veil lover and will be wearing a two-tier cathedral length veil, with the top tier being mid-back length. I am also not religious nor virginal but I think people have now forgotten the 'real' meaning behind them and are mainly just an aesthetic piece to compliment.

My cathedral part detaches from the comb leaving just the shorter tier in place and as this is such a lovely feature, I will be leaving my veil on all night Smiley smile

I think the symbolism of weddings as a whole gives me the creeps in all honesty. ? If you stop to think for a minute about why marriage was invented and what it has meant for women over the years...

I suppose what I am trying to say is if you look into it all you could have a problem with loads of it (dress, rings, vows, father giving the daughter away, women changing their name etc etc), so I think it's best not to think about it at all. ?

I like the sound of that a lot, as with the longer length veils can be hard work as everyone will go out of their way to stand on it, twigs, wasps, flys, children tend to get stuck in them, so the option to take off the bigger part and still keep a veil is a great design.

I think that's why I fell in love with it...it's everything I wanted! I've always wanted a cathedral length as I think they're so elegant and being stood at the front of the church it will be beautiful...but I also always wanted to keep my veil on all the way through. The best of both worlds ?

If you want a low bun the veil can be attached to come out from underneath it too. Plenty of pics on google. I've never doubted having one for a second, I want every little bit of being a bride and that has always involved a veil Smiley laugh
