Veils - how much and where from?

emmamac73, 5 March, 2011 at 19:56 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi!

I'm starting to think about my veil....in my dress shop they were about £80-£120 which seems A LOT to me!

So....how much have you guys paid for yours and where from?

I'm nervous that I'll need to order the veil, try it with my dress and might need to send it back?!

Thanks!

    Excellent work!! £10!! I do love a bargain.....will have a look now!

I'd like to order off eBay...just need to find one that accepts returns? I'm more worried about the colour being wrong than the style

I'm getting mine from my bridal shop. I was going to go down the ebay/pre-loved route but changed my mind as (a) I didnt think it was that expensive (£70), (b) it is being made to measure (I dont want a standard length) and (c) I know the colour will match my dress!

It is however a plain veil i.e. no crystals. If I'd wanted crystals it would have been at least £150 which does seems like a lot of money.

I'm borrowing mine from a friend as my 'something borrowed'. She has a great marriage so I'm hoping some of the magic will rub off...

Otherwise I would probably buy one 2nd hand (try the 'for sale' forum on here) or buy off ebay.

    ****@*******.*****.**.**

This is the lady I used, Margaret. She answered all my relentless questions, usually the same day. I sent photos of my dress & she advised, even saying I shouldnt have the extra crystals (even though it would have been more money for her!) so thought she was very honest. She sent samples of the tulle so I could compare to the dress for perfect match & pick which of several tulles I preferred. Once I did buy a veil, she was even happy to take it back for a refund or swap if I wasnt happy.

She can make to measure or has standard lengths. Mine was a 2 tier fingertip length with 2 baroque crystals for £22. Without the crystals would have been £17. Once I'd decided on the tulle, colour, style etc, it was here in 2days!

She was recommended from another hitcher & I have since recommended her to about 6 others!

    Hi

    I got mine from https://theweddingveilshop.co.uk/

She sends out samples of the material so you can match them to your dress. I got my dress shop to measure me for the lenght I wanted then I ordered a bespoke one with crystals online. This site was recommended to me by another hitcher too.

I had a 100 inch bespoke 2 tier veil with sparkles for £90 online, and the ones I was looking at in the shops were all £200 plus.

Glad to be of service ? I didn't go to their showroom as I live too far away, but seeing their veils in the "flesh" will def help you decide which one/style to go for.

Emmamac73, I dont have any pics of my veil, but Margaret has pics on ebay. pink_margaret2005

She does have alot more colours, styles & lengths than the ones she has on ebay though apparently. I got a diamond cut one with baroque crystals but thats a new one she hasnt put on there yet. She did send me pics before I bought it though.

I've found a good website, really cheap and can custom make veils. Mine works out only £19 including pearl edging, diamond white, centre gathered, 1 tier - but still undecided on 1 or 2 tiers so not ordered it yet! Only costs £21 for the 2 tier and the veil hanger is just £1.50.

The one I really wanted was £170 which just seemed ridiculous to me. I showed my dress to my sister when I bought it and she said how her veil would really match it so I have that as my 'something borrowed'! Hers was actually £30 from a wedding sale day in Tamworth - http://www.francescabridalwear.co.uk/news.php. They have 2 sales a year and the next one is on 25th March. Might be a bit of a trek for you but I imagine a lot of places must do similar event...

I considered eBay but always find it hard when you can't see it before you buy it and a lot of places do not accept returns unless the item is faulty...

I got mine from the good old Bay of E - I had tried one on in the shop that I loved, didn't know who it was by or anything, but then came across one very similar on Ebay which was second-hand Joyce Jackson, cost £100 new in the shop and I won it for £40. It's finger-tip length, 2 layers, scalloped edge with Swarovski teardrops from each of the scallops, centre gathered and is just lovely - not too high or bouffant at all.

So I recommend looking on Ebay as well for second-hand veils as typically they'll have had little to no wear and can be a real bargain if you find the one you're after!
