Venue dressing nightmare!!

kitcat10210, 7 April, 2013 at 11:07 Posted on Planning 0 23

Ok so I was all set and ready to go with my venue dresser and was seconds away from making a deposit.....and then I saw a photo of a venue they have dressed using their cadbruy purple organza sashes, and it made the room look so dark and depressing! I know its not a case of the way the photo was taken because I had a slight wobble when I first saw that their cadbury purple was slightly darker than the other venue dresser we were deciding between.

The reason I wnated to go with these guys though was because out of the two we were stuck between they gave the best quote, and I fell in love with their white wooden lantern centrepieces which nowhere else seems to be able to provide me with.

But after seeing this photo I'm now faced with a dilemma. Go with the original venue dresser and have the centre pieces I want and have a gloomier looking sash, or go with the other guys paying slightly more but having the awesome looking purple sashes.

I have already spoken to the other guys and they wouldnt be able to source the lanterns for us, so I'm stuck trying to find them myself at a reasonable price, which I dont seem to be able to do!!

Sorry for the rant but im a teeny tiny bit stressed

The photo may have made the purple look more dark than it actually is. If you love the lanterns and nowhere else has them, I would go with those dressers. If the purple is slightly darker it doesn't necessarily mean your venue will look gloomy.

Can you not get the centerpieces from one company and sash's from the other?

Theyre rival companies so it would be sort of like playing one off against the other if i asked one just for the centrepieces and the other for chair covers, I wouldnt like to take the risk of one of them not turning up on the day.

And like i said its not the way the photo was taken and the sashes are darker, it was just seeing lots in one place rather than just the one that sort of drove it home how much darker they are compared to the others

It's not playing one company off another its just simply you like one product from one company and another from another company..

So is your colour scheme Cadbury purple or purple.

The darker purple organza sashes have to be so as they are Cadbury purple, once these are on a white chair cover they look a lot lighter, so a purple sash on a chair cover can look mauve in some cases. Although you say its not a trick of the picture, it could be the angle as lower angle will show a sea of chair backs, also the room layout will have an effect and also the room itself.

Cadbury purple is a very distinctive shade and I have had cases where there has been upset when a car has turned up with Cadbury when it should of been just purple, I think it was a case of ignorant car provider saying "oh yes we have purple ribbon"

Mine is just purple. I'm not fussed whether everything is exactly the same shade or not, its just that this is the only purple they do and its very dark. Both companies have purple sashes and both claim to be cadbury

The car that turned up with Cadbury ribbon I had to photoshop it to the correct purple for the photos

I would of thought that the dressers would have a few different purples in stock, esp as I hear this year is big for purple--they are going to need some.

Could you get your own organza

    Here are 4 purples

WTF?! Surely purple is just purple.

people really do lose sight of what a wedding is sometimes, they really do.

    Totally this.

If it is REALLY that important, then go for the other provider, with the "right" coloured sashes.

I doubt your guests will comment on your gloomy looking sashes though.

    "Surely purple is just purple"

    Noop !

No colour is just whatever, and I go to great lengths and expense to ensure that the colours in my photos are correct, I use a VERY expensive colour calibrated monitor in a purpose built editing suite to ensure correct colour interpretation.

I work for a design agency, I am aware of this....but in a relation to a wedding, I would NEVER ask someone to photoshop a colour of a ribbon on a car, because it didn't match my BM dresses/flowers/invites.

Just because some of us want things to look nice means I've lost sight of what a wedding is?

I know exactly what a wedding is and what it means. I've wanted to get married to my H2B for years, not because I want a big fancy party and for everything to look pretty, but because I want us to be committed to each other for life.

It is also about the people who we are, and I am someone who detail is important to, and so is my partner. So for us to be unhappy because the colour isnt what we wanted it to be is important to us.

Admittedly I wouldnt cry if on the day the car turned up and the ribbon was the wrong shade, but I dont want my wedding to look dark and depressing, because colour schemes can actually affect peoples moods.

They didn't ask, I did it because I saw how upset they were when it was wrong. And I realise how important colour can be to Brides.

Kirst can correct me if I am wrong but I think she was talking about the photo shopped car ribbon as that what she had quoted.

Back to the OP, if you don't want to alternate and want all the same colour then you should go with firm that do the colour you prefer or like some one said you can supply your own for the other firm to use. You could always sell them again afterwards.

OP, I can reassure you that your guests almost certainly won't notice or care if your chair sashes don't quite match the rest of your purple, and won't feel gloomy if the rest of the room is bright and you are cheerful.

If the colour of the sashes is more important to you than the table centres, then go with the company that does the sashes you like. Otherwise, pick the company you were originally planning on going with, and rest assured that you will be the only one who cares about chair sashes.

I can see now reading it back that that is probably what she meant, but I'm still sick of hearing women criticizing other women saying that they dont know the meaning of a wedding just because they're upset that something went or is going wrong.

No. No you won't. If you are doing ANYTHING other than grinning like a loon at your Boy and gazing around in awe that THIS IS YOUR WEDDING, you really are doing something wrong.

Trust me. I'm a girl who counts pixels in order to centre text on an invitation. Smiley smile

Not on the day you won't lovely. Yesterdays wedding, the electric went at the venue and during the group shots the bride was told that the 3 course sit down meal could not happen. She carried on like nothing had happened. She had her Husband by her side and that's all that mattered.

Have you tried looking for other companies that do the lanterns and the sashes you want?? Or just another company completely that will do the right sashes?

If you're still unsure, maybe dont think about it for a while then when you come to look at it again you might make up your mind instantly!

    Good luck

Personally, I'd stick with the company who have the centrepieces you like, if they are proving that hard to source. On ebay you can get sashes for under a pound each in a vast array of colours, so why not buy one or two in different shades and see how they look in real life. If you then decided to buy as many as you needed you could have exactly the room you wanted AND sell the sashes back on without losing anything
