My venue is charging us £255 an hour for early access so we can set up,

is that right?

Wow! How early are you trying to get access?!!

I haven't come across this before, but then I usually arrive at the venue about 2 hours before the wedding. If venue staff arrive at 7am and you want to start setting up at 5am then it's fair enough to ask you to pay. But if it's a venue that is already open, eg serving breakfasts, then this is a suspicious request! Sometimes rules like this may be made up to force you to book the hotel recommended suppliers.

    WOW?

Thats a stupid amount of money!

We're setting up from around 7 am, the wedding is at 3:30 and the venue have given me no charge at all for that. Our reception venue isn't really a wedding venue though. If tey have no bookings for functions the day before we can even go in and set up things like the hairs with their covers and sashes and drop everything off and I'm not being charged for that but won't be able to find out if we can do that until the week before.

I think I'd e askin if there was anyway you can reduce that charge!

We have the venue from 12oc. Wedding at 2

Our hall decorators let us down. So its 2 of my friends and me.

She said she'd make it £150 for 1 hour. Feel I should complain but could she spoil our reception?

    This cant be right?

That does seem a lot but at least you're getting access. Our venue won't let us set up as they use the room for Breakfast so we have to go the night before and give them detailed instruction of how we want it set up! This is stressing me out ever so slightly as I am a but if a control freak and the thought im not going to see it until I actually walk in on the wedding day is not how I'd imagined it would happen! Just have to keep my fingers crossed they know what they're doing!;-)

I still think it's a cheek. Access from 12 is too late for a 2pm wedding. Usually I arrive at a hotel wedding venue about 2 hours before a wedding. I go see the rooms and then I find the bride. By the time I get there the rooms are already accessible by all the suppliers.

This is an unfair means of getting extra cash off couples. I think you should protest to the manager, make a fuss.

Ours is accessible from 10 (we won't need it until 5) but if we want to go any earlier it will cost is £50 + Vat per hour. We shouldn't need that though, and I think it's because there won't be staff there before 10 so it will need to cover paying them etc

This seems extortionate to me! Our venue is letting us set up the day before, we can be there from 8am-5pm and it is all included in our hire cost. Part of the hire is the set up surely??

For £255 I would be at the very least expect to be able to set up before 12 - like in from 6!!! Because there is no way you are going to be able to get it set up and get yourself ready in time.

This seems thoroughly unjustified to me.

Is it a venue where they could sell the room in the morning? Xxx
