Venue for wedding...would I be able to

Cherry_Bakewell, 21 April, 2008 at 10:01 Posted on Planning 0 8

I'm supoosed to be getting married in August 2008 in Urquhart Castle, Inverness and for 1 reason or another its not going to happen. I've paid the fee for holding the ceremony there (£400) and wondered if I'd be able to sell it on so to speak?

Any ideas?

? in advance

Will they not refund you if they can find someone else to take the date?

    Might be worth asking?

Sorry to hear the wedding isn't going ahead x

Will they not give you a refund if you cancel now? I guess the only way you can really find out is to phone the venue and ask if it's possible to change the name.. ?

I'm being a total wuss about it actually Hepburn, it's already been postponed once before and I'm scared [:I] of phoning up and asking!

Stupid I know but there's so much going on at the minute that I'm shying away from anything to do with the wedding.

I went to cancel last year and they said I'd lose the mney I'd paid so I can't see them refunding me even if someone else took the date.

I think you need to call them to be honest, even if you try and sell on the date yourself the likleyhood is that the new couple will also have to pay a deposit so you still won't get your £400 back.

Can you ask your mum or dad to call on your behalf, be stern and ask for a refund? Or even just postpone the date for a year and then deal with asking for the refund until you feel stronger?

It must be hard doing wedding bits when you know it's not going to happen but I do think you need to find a way to contact the venue ?

CB - Sorry if I came across as insensitive, I don't know what has happened, nor will I ask. I just meant that the sooner you call them the sooner it's over with you know ?

    xx

Hepburn - I didn't think for one minute you were being insensitive. I know what you meant.

Thanks, everything is just really, really hard at the minute.

    Hi CB,

Sorry to hear things are rough at the moment. I just wanted to let you know that due to various reasons I had to cancel 2 weddings, one for Feb just gone and one for this August. I phoned my venue and explained everything, both were far better than I could of imagined and far more forth coming with my refunds than I would ever of thought possible!

I know you want to just forget about all things wedding at the moment, but i'm sure if you or a memeber of your family got in touch, eitehr by phone or by letter, you mmay be surprised at the outcome.

I really hope you get everything sorted, I know what an awful time it is, feel free to PM me if you want to chat?
