Venue found - date available this year - panic!

Joneseygal, 23 February, 2010 at 13:05 Posted on Planning 0 13

We viewed a venue on Sunday and they have a date available in June - the only date they have for this year! Waiting for the registrar to confirm if they can make it but with 3 months in which to sort EVERYTHING I don't even know where to start! I think the first thing is the dress so I am speaking with local bridal shops to see if we can get sorted in that time! Anybody else arranged their wedding at short notice?!?!

Hi and welcome to hitched! Hadnt done short notice myself but it is definitely doable! we've all seen 'dont tell the bride'

if you have date and venue then you have started! use these to help decide upon theme or colour scheme, sometimes you arrive at what you want by ruling out things you dont want! Have a mahoosive brain storming session. Get dresses and wedding party decided on ASAP, then the rest will fall (quickly into place)

    Wow! How exciting!!! ?

Dont' worry - totally doable! Mine's being arranged in 8 months which compared to some on here is quick, I would've happily done it sooner ?

Budget, dress, guest lists and invitations spring to mind as some of the first must dos.

I'd say dress first! it can take a while to find one you love and also may need alteratiosn etc. bridesmaids and other wedding party outfits also need to be found quite soon i reckon?

as for suppliers - someone on here once said to first book those who only take 1 or 2 people a day. so photographer, florist, cakemaker, hair n makeup spring to mind. oh and DJ...

and invitations are also quite high on the list i'd say. good luck and let us know if you need any help!

    xx

Yep....definitely DJ. This might help solve one problem for you. If you submit an enquiry (takes only a few seconds) to either of these sites, the DJs available for your date will get back to you with details about their service and fee. It could save you a whole lot of time trawling through sites and making phone calls only to be told they are unavailable. www.weddingdja.co.uk and www.mobiledjdisco.co.uk

Is the date a Saturday or another day? Because mine is a Sunday (I'm organising in 9 months, for the summer) and I've found it a lot easier because it's not a saturday.

You can book togs/vogs without an idea of the theme, so I'd get them in the diary. See if you can find your dress - it might be an idea to get a sample and get it altered?

I think it depends on how fixated you are on certain things - e.g. are you obsessed with having a specific tog/vog/made BM dresses - if you're willing to be flexible I think you'll be fine.

Thanks for the advice! We do have a guest list pretty much sorted so invites are a top priority. We have started making enquiries for entertainment and I am going to a local wedding fair this weekend which will undoubtedly help! I am not someone who has always pictures my dream wedding and dress so am fairly flexible on quite a few things, my soon to be sister in law can't believe how calm I seemed when we said that we might be doing it in June!

Will have to try and sort a lot during my lunch hour as much as I can so yesterday decided to go to the local Berkertex shop to have a talk with them - they are closed on Mondays! Went round at lunch time today and there was a hand written note saying that they were closed for lunch! Decided to ring a dress shop nearer to where I live and they are closed today so didn't have the most productive day in terms of dress stuff but I have loads of magazines so I am getting an idea of what I can get - but I don't want ot be trying things on and falling in love with something that won't be ready in time. I'm trying to approach it practically!

    Hello and welcome to hitched!

Whats the date in june? ...im a june bride.

As others have said, get things like dress, tog and entertainment sorted first as those people get booked up well in advance!

On the other hand there are many weddings organised in a couple of months , I photographed a lovely wedding in the snow in January which was organised in 5 weeks (Groom had got a job in Saudi Arabia and they needed to be married to both live in the country) , I was booked 11 days before the wedding was due and it was a lovely wedding

Little_Jen that is quite a list but most useful!

Unfortunately we got the bad news today that the registrar's office cannot do that date so it's back to the drawing board. Gutted. ☹️ But I will still start dress-hunting as I will need one of those whenever we get married!!

Thank you all for the advice which is useful whenever the date is! At least I might get a bit more time to plan it now so I suppose that's a plus if I try and look on the brightside.

Could you try another registars office that is nearby???? as you have to pay more if you are getting married at your chosen venue anyway, I think whetehr a registrar has to travel 5 10 or 20 miles the price is the same..
