Venue help?!?!

crazybeautiful, 8 July, 2013 at 15:07 Posted on Planning 0 14

Good afternoon,

I cannot even begin to explain how much my brain is fried in finding the perfect venue... or even a venue that I like!

Basically, I am looking for a blank canvas... preferably a barn so we can decorate it to the high heavens for the ceremony (candles everywhere). But for the reception I want some open space to put up a marquee along with a hog roast/bbq. So basically I need a barn which allows me to put up a marquee and host a bbq!

I am looking all over England so if anyone has any suggestions then please let me know... any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you,

Jade

There are lots, if you are looking at the whole country. Presumably if you are looking everywhere then you are expacting your quests to travel, so will want somewhere with a campsite or letting rooms? Many of the barn venues are Grade 2 listed so may limit the use of candles for fire safety. Don't be too disappointed if this is the case

try typing barn marquee wedding venue into google; that brings up about 20, then specify your criteria a little to tighten the search parameters.

    good luck.

    Heaton house farm, Cheshire.

entrance is like a barn type where you can have the ceremony and the rooms are marquee lining lined (if that makes sense).

I am willing to use the electric candles for down the altar... Well I will test run that idea first... see if it looks tacky or not!

I live in the midlands so obviously as close to that as possible for the simple reason of people travelling. However, having looked into it the most popular places seem to be Kent and areas like that.

I have requested brochures for both which were requested. If anybody else has ideas let me know Smiley smile.

    Have a good day.

As you want to have the ceremony at your venue, you can begin by looking up all the approved venues from your county: it will be found through your county's registrar website. Run down the list and cross out all the ones which are hotels. Most of the lists also include the number of people who can be in the ceremony room so you will be able to cross off a few based on that. then look up the others quickly to find which are barns/diy venues. My tip: don't choose what to look up based on the names alone: Dodmoor House and Dodford Manor, for example, are both Barn venues in Northamptonshire (though perhaps a bit less DIY than you are after) but you wouldn't know it from the name alone.

Then do your neighbouring counties, and so on.

    Good hunting!

    Hi Jade,

We are getting married at Ufton Court, which is near Reading (Berkshire). It's quite far from you, but I think it can do all of the things that you are looking at - it's a really flexible space.

Are you willing to take any suggestions or are you limited by guest numbers?

A second for Ufton court in Berks - not my venue but it is lovely.

Oh and if you use frosted glass holders (jam jars etc) you can't really tell if you're using LED candles. They don't give off a lot of light though

Barns are just beautiful, if you're looking for anywhere in England, I would suggest The Great Barn in Kent, it's just stunning! And it has a lot of space outside as well for your reception. And as far as barns go, it's not too bad to hire cost wise. I think it's about £2500 which is pretty good for the size of it and location, apart from the fact that barns are very in at the moment. There's one down the road from me and it's just under 10k to hire... Crazy!

I would also suggest looking in Hertfordshire as they have some beautiful venues and barns too. Tewin Bury Farm in Herfordshire is worth a try perhaps. Good luck Smiley smile

I don't know of anywhere specific but I did have a client recently who hired a bit of land off a farmer by the lake and do the whole ti-pi route. So in terms of customising your decoration that's an option. There must be plenty of barns around the Derbyshire region I imagine, DW is in your area and might have some shots of her past barn weddings.

Hi welcome! (I like your username, do you like the film too?)

I only really know around Essex as that is where I am getting married so where I have researched.

Do you want a fairly small marquee just to hold some people for the BBQ or a proper one in addition to the barn.

I will tell you the barns I know of in Essex/Suffolk.

Crondon Park - this is where I am marrying. They have loads of outside place, however it is usually a golf club so check with them if you'll need a marquee. One good thing they have though is a little hut where they do the BBQ/hog roast outside (all weather) and if it's bad weather they will then bring it inside. Is that why you are after a marquee. Tell me to bog off if I'm being too nosey.

Smeetham Hall Barn has a marquee outside. It's not 100% clear if the marquee is included in the package as well as the barn. It comes across as it is.

    Maidens Barn.

    Barn and Brasserie.

Dove Barn, Suffolk - not sure about the outside space but it looks gorgeous!

Mangapp manor - not a barn, just a marquee but looks absolutely gorgeous.
