Venue help please!!

BrideLeanne, 3 March, 2014 at 16:36 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi All,

I am a new member to Hitched, although I have been using the site for the last couple of months.

I'm currrently in the process of looking for a wedding venue but am getting really stressed out with it!! We are getting married in a church so only looking for a venue from about 2:30ish.

What I'd really like is:

  • A London venue or just outside of London (it can't be too far of a drive from our church in Peckham)
  • Capacity for 100 people for the wedding breakfast (a further 50 for the evening)
  • Beautiful grounds, space for the kids to play, somewhere for gorgeous photos
  • Venue hire less that £3500
  • Either external caterers or packages less than £90pp
  • Free or very low corkage
  • Over night accommodation for bride and groom

We have looked at Sundridge Park Manor and although it is stunning it does require some cosmetic work inside (which they have said they do not plan to do), they can only seat 75 for the WB and it is quite pricey for what it is. We've also looked at Oaks Farm but they don't have our date, it doesn't have the wow factor that Sundridge has and our friends (who would attend our wedding) got married there last year.

I'm looking at Amadeus but was wondering if anyone else has any more suggestions.

Please help!?

Leanne

We had our reception here: http://www.landmarkartscentre.org/about-hiring/wedding-receptions.html - we put on buses for our guests which took them from the Landmark to Wandsworth Town Hall for the ceremony and back again.

It doesn't have overnight accommodation but we stayed in the Lensbury hotel which is literally down the road - it has a nice bridal room ? Otherwise it ticks most of the boxes, the venue hire was just under £3k when we got married in 2011 so I imagine it's still under £3.5k. No corkage - we brought our own bar in and did champagne, wine, spirits and soft drinks for less than a fiver per head. You bring in your own external caterers and IMO it's beautiful - we had our formal photos done inside against the stained-glass window behind the stage. It doesn't have its own external grounds but it's right next to a little 'park' area and it's also right near the river.

You get the place for the whole weekend, so can set up in advance and the clean-up can happen the following day.

Thanks Saisi for your reply. I've had a look at the venue and it is beautiful and I love the fact that you have access to it the day before.

Can you remember what caterers you used? I had a look at some caterers last night but I always think it is better to go with recommendations, especially if they have catered at the venue before as well.

We had Indian food so probably not much help haha. Sorry!

ETA I think the venue has a list of recommended suppliers!
