Dear all,
I hope my question fits within this chat - I was not sure where else to post it. We are getting married in summer 2011, and we already found our venue, a beautiful college in Cambridge that does many weddings each year.
My question is: How comprehensive should the events contract be that we are signing this week?
I ask this question because the venue manager told us that menues and prices for food and
drink will change in 2011, so we haven't chosen any food/drink yet at the first meeting.
However, the contract we were sent contains:
- Venue Hire (100£ more than when we talked in person but whatever...)
- calculations for wine, juice, menue, champagne for toast for the minimum number of guests we gave (but we did not choose any of this beforehand, they just took the most expensive item on this year's menue list as a sample it seems)
- VAT and 10% service charge not included
There is a note "Please note that the catering and beverages are estimated only, and ill very depending on your choice".
The contract now states a total sum of over 7000£ which is a bit unexpected and we need to make a deposit within a week of £1000.
I personally would like to have those food/drink prices removed to make sure we are not charged - would you recommend that as well?
I'd also like to add the following things:
- venue hire exact time when it starts and ends
- which rooms and gardens will be reserved for us (exclusively)
- the marquee, chairs, tables that were promised to be included
- the room for the bride to get ready in that was promised included in the charge
- that the manager will be there on the day
- what is exactly included in the venue hire
- ?
During the talk with the venue manager we were very happy but the contract seems a bit odd - or is this how it works, having a short contract and agreeing on the details via email?
Thank you!
