Venue in Essex

Beefzoid, 4 January, 2013 at 20:16 Posted on Planning 0 29

Finally after 3 years of engagement he has let me set a date!!!! mind its not for another year and 7 months but its progress!!!

Im looking for a venue in Essex (nearer havering), have had a good look round a few venues but the prices are ridiculious! (we are trying to do the wedding on a bit of a budget) Has anyone booked or got wed at the lawn?

We really like the venue online, im popping along to the wedding fayre/open day on sunday 20th to see it in person... my question is, how much approx was this venue to book??

Eek! We're getting married at The Lawn the day after the wedding fayre!

It was £1,500 for us but thats a Monday in January! I think the Saturdays in August were about £6,000? I literally only briefly looked at the sheet when we were discussing other things so not sure completely.

The Lawn have been completely amazing so far and i haven't heard one bad thing about them so far! If you have any more questions about them let me know!

I recently went to a wedding at Leez Priory. It's quite expensive I think? Not sure it was worth it though personally

Went to a wedding at Crabbs Barn over Christmas, was beautiful... not sure how close that is to you though?

There are loads of venues in essex... how many people are you looking at and what is your budget?

We are looking at Thursday 14th August 2014, I know Fri and Sat are expensive at most venues, my friend got married at leez Priory and she spent just short of £25,000 on her wedding! Another friend got married at Crondon for £24,000, another friend also at Crondon was £26,000, another friend topped £54,000!!!! And friends getting married this year are at £32,000!!!

With our mortgage and bill's we simply cannot afford, nor want to spend £20 odd thousand pounds! We we trying to do the wedding on a budget at about £5-6,000 which im finding is practically impossible! :-(

It's not impossible, you just have to compromise a little...

We saved loads by getting married out of season - our package was £5k compared to £8k 2 weeks later!

Our wedding has cost £5,000. We have 40 guests and 20 extra evening guests. Not sure on their prices for a Thursday (but it will be much cheaper than a Saturday though)

I'm a teacher, so we are trying to find a time when we can get wed and also have the honeymoon. I suggested getting married in the Feb half term and then waiting until April for the Easter holidays to have the honeymoon, but he said he would prefer to have the honeymoon after the wedding. so that leaves Christmas, the easter holidays and the summer hoildays (want a 10 - 14 day honeymoon) which wont fit in a half term. A right pain!

I originally said 40 day guests to the wedding in our local registry office (langtons house) and then 60 evening guests at a venue... he then informs me he wants his whole family there (inclduing me, my family consists of 10 of us) he has about 48 members of his family on the list so far! Ive said he needs to cut the list because there are some on there he hasnt spoke to in 5 years etc... but no wants them all which then rules out the reg office (50 guests total)...

I am teacher as well and so we are getting married on the 22nd December, first weekend of the holidays, so then i get two weeks off to relax and recover and then we are going on a really long honeymoon in the following summer holidays. Just means you have to have specific dates in mind when you go looking and know your term dates for that year!

Would you like an all in one venue, or are you happy to consider two different venues?

Langtons in Hornchurch is one of the nicer registry offices in the havering area, you'll then have the option to go onto somewhere else which might help budget wise?

The ivory rooms for example do a £1999 wedding package which includes 50 guests for sit down meal I believe and is just 20 minutes up the A127 from havering

We looked at marks hall, crabbs barn, maidens barn, vaulty manor, blake hall and crondon park - all very lovely but yes... expensive!

We are getting married on a thursday in may and we chose vaulty manor for £2950 for venue hire, nothing else.

If it's reception only maybe you should look at hotels, halls, pubs that can be hired with catering you can get yourself... that will save you a ton.

I love hearing about some of the weddings on here, village pub gardens with hog roasts and afternoon teas.... I want a bbq at our venue as I want to keep it relaxed even if the venue is 'posh' xxxxxxxx

Thats where i was orginally thinking, langtons in hornchurch and then onto a venue, ive looked at booking a venue (lots dont have hirer charges for mon-weds or cheaper on a thurs) and then getting in caterers, i had a catering quote back today was £50 short of £6000!!, on top of this there are the cars, the dress, the centrepieces, etc etc etc

Another option for you is to look at village halls - we're getting married in WickhamBishops village hall which is lovely but there are some other beautiful village halls around essex with good capacity.

The hall and food for 120 people is costing us about £3500!

Very expensive venue from what I remember but KB might be able to correct me as she looked at it as a potential.

How about room in the rodings or rein rooms (room in rodings charges £900 for room hire) - you can bring in your own ccaterers.

We're having hog roast and desert for our sit down meal for 70, and substantial evening buffet for 100... It also includes waiting staff, linen, tableware, glasses etc, staff are putting out my decorations etc. and lots more for around £2.5k I think - and the amount of food we're getting is amazing!

We're supplying our own drinks, as they don't have a corkage fee either... This is just for day. In evening we use te venues bar

The fact that your wedding is a Thursday should bring some heavy discounting. I did a Lympne castle wedding (closer that Scotland) last year and the couple paid a fraction of the budget you mentioned, simply because it was midweek. Many Marriott hotels offer package deals and it might be worth checking those out.

Hi there, also a havering bride!!! If you can get your numbers down then quite alot of places to packages. The manor in rainham/upminster is nice. My sister got married at Langtons it was beautiful then onto a golf club down the A127. We are getting married about half hour away from hornchurch at Langdon Hills golf club, we also looked at the old rectory which is down the same road, thats nice and you have the whole place to yourselfs. but something about the view and sunset when we went to visit the golf club pulled us in and we booked!!

I just spent days on the computer (googling essex wedding venues)with peices of paper and added everything up so it was all there together to see! Quite a few places i saw had money off on mondays, and who likes mondays anyway lol so people wouldnt mind taking a day off! Hope you get somewhere soon, we booked 11months in advance and found our registrar only had 2time slots left which really surprised me. x

I used to be a teacher, and your school have to give you the day off (possibly unpaid...not sure) to get married - a bit like they have to give you a moving day when you move house.

Maybe you could get married on a Friday before the holidays start, which would give you more time for your honeymoon.

What was it like? It is very expensive. It's my top venue at the moment and want to know what it was like. I've not yet seen it though!

    You rang?

Yea, blooming lovely but for a Friday in September, we'd have been looking at approx £13k for 80 day guests.

A weekday would be cheaper but probably still over your budget.

And it gets booked up so far in advance, it's unreal!

    OK

Im local photographer www.gregcoltmanphotography.com and there are numerous venues to cater for everything....

The Rectory at Dunton - beautiful, reasonably priced venue. Been to a few weddings here.

Friern Manor - Pricier, but again stunning.

Ye olde plough house - Bulphan

Langtons is a beautiful registry office and you can then choose a seperate venue.

Do a search for essex wedding barns. There are some stunning converted barns that are amazing venues.

    Hope that helps
