Venue let down

chloezgarrard1, 24 September, 2014 at 21:34 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi everyone,

We need help and would really appreciate some advice, our venue has fallen through 9 months before the big day! PANIC!!

We had a venue booked, and unfortunately had a bad experience when it came to the food tasting so have had to cancel. This has left us with 9 months until our wedding, and with a very tight budget, we are keen to get something booked asap.

We had arranged for a church wedding, but are flexible/undecided on whether we still wish to marry in a church or have a civil ceremony.

We are planning a reception for 60 people, a 3 course meal, 1/2 bottle wine, toasting drinks etc. With an additional 40/50 people in the evening. We had arranged a served evening buffet of bacon rolls, sausage sandwiches, cheese on toast, etc, and are hoping we can still do this.

We also have an amazing 5 piece band booked, so would need the venue to be able to accommodate them if possible.

We live in Southend, Essex and our original quote was £3k for all of the above so very reasonable which is maybe why the food was rubbish Smiley sad
i've been enquiring over the last few days and it seems most venues are booked up now, so am looking for a venue 'outside of the box' maybe a gastro pub, something quite low key.
thank you for reading!
Chloe

Do you have a Marriott Hotel near to you?...They can sometimes do very good deals....

Your budget is fitting a lot in, so have you considered a midweek wedding when better deals can be had???

We're getting married in Southend, hope its not the same venue!

I know it's not in Southend, but have you looked at the Regent Ballroom in Stanford le Hope? We had a viewing there, it would certainly fit your outside of the box venue. The hire charge was very reasonable, don't know anything about the catering etc but it might be worth looking on their website.

The only other place I can think of is Sands Restaurant. Their price is based on a minimum spend on food and drink, so there is no hire charge. Not sure if the price will suit your budget, but if you don't hold the ceremony there you can just hire the View part of the restaurant which is half the cost of hiring the full venue.

    Good luck with finding somewhere

I've booked the Halfway House on the A127, they have a bistro room which can be hired out or there's a marquee at the back, they do civil ceremonies there as well

Have you looked on groupon? They have some really good deals.

If it is any encouragement my H2B and I got engaged 5 weeks ago and get married in 10 weeks on Saturday- we got the church and a beautiful venue (the food is fantastic), my dress, a band and wedding rings so far. You may have to 'think outside the box'- ours is an old grammar school, it is stunning, and the bar is cheap!

Hi Chloe, Sorry to hear about your venue, glad you realised now and not closer to the date or even worse on the day. You could try:

The Lawn, The Arlington Ballroom (Leigh), The Rochford Hotel or Red Brick Barn.

Good luck hope you find one. x
