Venue - OMG!*** updated ***

tizmelou, 16 September, 2011 at 09:04 Posted on Planning 0 28

WE went to see a new venue last night, its still in the process of renovation but very nearly complete and OMG I was fighting tears the whole way round, its stunning and now I REALLY REALLY REALLY want my wedding there. Anyone else felt like that after a viewing? I have to email exactly what we're after today and they'll come back with a quote, petrified it will be too high so please wish my luck!!

Quote is in and its out of the question. One thing not mentioned previous is a huge exclusive use charge, I thought it just meant we had to book the bedrooms......

Sick with disappointment. ☹️

We felt very much like this when we saw our venue (although we already had the information about costs so we knew we could afford it) - we couldn't wait to book it!!!

Fingers crossed the quote works out for you!

Hi Sherrie - it was Old Down Manor have you been to see it? It's STUNNING! All bath stone, massive windows, views over the river, a roof terrace, a rose garden, huge lawn and gardens, magnificant hall way with stairs and gallery landing, its just stunning!!!

They are having a wedding fair next month so you could go see it then??

Soooooo want to get married there.....

Awww how lovely, yes I was like this. The minute I realised our venue actually did weddings I was kinda smitten, but my mum phoned up about the cost on my behalf and told me what it was and that it was too high and to keep looking! I was gutted, but my OH was determined we were to go and see it anyway and not to listen to my mum, what does she know about what we can afford...then OHs mum said if we loved it she'd pay it ? so we went to look (sadly OH parents couldnt make it to the viewing as his dad was in hospital) but we loved it indeed, I did have tears in my eyes as I imagined what it would be like on the day. After she showed us the room for the ceremony she was taking us out to see the gardesn I looked at OH and he whispered to me 'we should definately get married here' I got tingles, but I had reservations about letting OH parents pay due to their situation at the time with his Dad actually being terminally ill, but his mum insisted luckily and that was that!!!

It certainly sound like you have found your venue, I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it is within your budget!

When we went to see ours I was like a big kid! I was so excitied and dashing about everywhere. When I walked round the corner of the finca and saw the sea view over the mountains I got a shiver down my spine, it is amazing! I knew at that point that it was the place I wanted to get married. I really can't wait to go back there but I wont see it again until 2 days before the wedding ☹️

Have had ladies with tears in the eyes when showing them round a marquee before... it's very gratifying and reminds us that we do a good job but I'm useless at dealing with tears so tend to get all gruff!

Got my fingers crossed for you here too. I thought I'd found our venue when I went to an open evening with my mum and sister; I loved it, OH hated it. I was gutted. We went to view another venue which I wasn't fussed about seeing at all and had really low expectations for, and I fell in love completely. I got goosebumps and wanted to book it RIGHT THEN! (I can be very impatient!) When it's right for you, you just know. So fingers crossed for you massively that the prices are within budget.

They are booked already for when we wanted!!! Only got 18 booking so far and one on our date!!

However shes quoting me for the Sunday instead - we can't be flexible and just pick another weekend as we are going to the Ryder cup in America for our honeymoon so obviously want to get married just before

ARRGGHHHH after the upset and let down by the last venue I didn't think I'd find sonmewhere else I wanted so badly :-( All I'm hoping is at least the Sunday may be a tad cheaper.....

I felt like that when I first saw our venue. We had provisionally booked somewhere else and were just going to this place for a wedding fayre but as we drove down the long driveway both our jaws dropped. We're both big fans of architecture so for us it's an amazing place, and thankfully it has all the other things we wanted in a venue.

Ah glad you liked your venue after your trouble with your first choice. Sounds lovely there, there's a deal on living social for 3 course meal for two for £29 at the moment there, so you could go and try the food without it costing too much before you book anything. Hope the quote comes back soon and is within your budget x

Hi yes, we've got that deal its for the Bistro there thats already open we saw it last night looks lovely you should try it! Its a different chef doing the weddings shes sending me all his credentials she said the dishes he did for his interview were stunning and hes got loads of experience in fine dining and we can meet him and taste different dishes to help us choose our menu which is really nice I think!

THATS if we ever get the quote and can affort it! Got massive tension head waiting! lol

Ah Im so sorry about the quote hun, but think of this although the venue is gorgeous they don't have any experience of weddings or working as a team to pull together a great wedding. So what if you had chosen it and spent lots of money and it didn't quite live up to your expectations because of lack of experience. Personally, I would only book suppliers of any kind which have a lot of proven experience and knowledge but that is just me x

I'd asked about that the and the host of the day has over 20 years and the others varius years experience behind them and by the time we marry they'd have been open almost a year so teething troubles hopefully ironed out, but I know where you are coming from hence one of the reasons I thought they'd be more reasonbaly prices whilst building up a reputation.

Serves me right for getting so excited, I always build myself up for a massive fall, seems this whole wedding malarky might not have meant to be!!! (at least his mother will be thrilled)

Have since found somewhere lovely, but not my first choice.

Sorry you have been disappointed, I know how you feel, but keep looking and something will come up to make your heart skip a beat

I know exactly how you feel. We went to see a venue last year before it was completed and i instantly fell in love with it, every room i went into was just 'wow'. We got the quote, and it was totally unachievable. We did manage to get it to a more of a accpetable price, but still A LOT of money, but it meant compromising on everything we wanted. The amount of people, the date etc, so we didnt end up going with them. To make matters worse the venue is in nearly every magazine i read and sometimes appears as a banner on this site, so it's there as a constant reminder!

I do hope that it is different for you, *fingers crossed*

Well...... whats happened is I replied and had already been totally honest and said how much I loved it so was upfront and said no way would we pay that and she's come back with a better quote - not compromising what we want at all just knocking some money off - more than I thought - so watch this space, it's still at least 2 grand over our very top budget BUT I'm tempted. What would you do? There isn't even any photos on the web yet so I can't show you how beautiful it is...Should vI listen to my head, and purse (bare in mind my car is dying) or should I go with my heart? I told the H2B earlier I don't NEED a dream wedding, I'm marrying HIM and HE is what I want and his reply was 'thts exactly why you need your dream wedding' BUT I know we can't really afford it?!?! ARRRGGGHHHHHH........

This is so tricky. We're going to view places in three weeks and I have my heart set on Ruthin Castle. I think we can afford it but OH is worried that it'll come way over budget as he knows how much I love it! I know I'll be gutted if we can't go there. The other places are beautiful too but I think I've already imagined myself getting married there! We went and stayed there just after we got engaged and we loved it. I didn't imagine in my wildest dreams that it's be in our budget but it may be!!!

Good luck with the place. I guess it comes down to whether you can realistically get the extra 2k. If you can and it means that much to you, without putting yourselves in debt, then I say go for it!! I know if Ruthin comes in slightly over budget then we're still gonna take it!! Don't tell H2B though!! Hehehe!

Am so excited - I think my gorgeous H2B is actually going to book the venue today - am feeling sick waiting for him to ring to say if he's managed to.

I think the decider was we went to another venue within buget on Saturday - again I left is tears but this time because I thought it was so horrible I really wouldn't not get married there and he agreed. Am SO excited - but really worried to..... wish me luck! (again)
