Venue packages & children

Sparkles82, 1 July, 2012 at 22:29 Posted on Planning 0 16

Our package with our venue is for 60 daytime guests. I have worked out our guest list, and we have 67, but 4 of these are under 2.

Would you expect under 2's to be included? I will of course check with the venue, but just wondering generally so that I know whether its worth arguing the toss when I bring the subject up with the wedding planner.

Capacity or payment? We don't pay for children under two but they don't get fed! So we shall be paying for him (just the one!)

    Payment.

I am wondering if I could haggle with them a bit and maybe get them to do something simple for the kids, something cheaper than the adults meals, as I would like them to be included proper.

I would not pay an adult price for a 4 year old. We paid for kids age 2-12 then 12 plus as an adult. Under two's can be free if you don't want them fed!

Is it worth it with a two year old? Older kids obviously should get a kids meal but for a baby/toddler under two I'm not sure it's worth paying for food for them?

I just dont know! Being child-less, it is all a bit of a mystery to me. Would the parents feel obliged to share their with their child? Gosh, children are hard work! lol

Tell me about it...my best friend is due soon and me and another friend had an hour phone call trying to work out what bouncer/rocker to buy her!

Maybe speak to their parents and see what they say?

At my cousins wedding recently, they served dishes of veg and potatos for everyone to share... maybe the under 2s could be given a carrot and a brocolli tree! lol.

I think I need to have some discussions with some parents! Lol

    Our venue:

Under 2 free (don't get fed)

    From 2 - 12 - reduced rate and children's menu

    13+ Adult meal/price

We are going to do the drinks package separately as we have a few 10-15 who are having an adult meal but I don't want to pay for alcohol for them!

    HTH ?

In our venue's brochure it explains that children's meals are the same but smaller so 60% of the price of an adult. Under 1s I won't be bothering with but older than that will be having the child's portions. As a mum myself I always give my children the same meal as us, just smaller, so won't be treating the wedding breakfast any different.

I didn't invite any children so didn't have to deal with this but I don't understand the majority view here (or the view of most venues).

Why don't 2 year old children get fed? Every 2 year old I know eats mini portions of proper food (one has been eating mini portions of proper food from 6 months old).

Hi Sparkles, I would suggest seeing what your venue say before you start wondering as you may be surprised by what they offer, we had a similar situation and I was really happy with how the venue worked in this situation.

We bought a package of 80 daytime guests and when we planned our original 80 it included 7 children (ages 1 through to 11) and I didnt want to pay full price as aside of what they will be eating that package price includes the table wine and the toast wine and I know for a fact they wont be having any of that!! When I discussed this with the venue they said the package was set at 80 and couldnt alter that however what they do if you have children in your 80 (and children in this case is under 12) you can add another adult on but at childs price (which in this case is £20 each). I was really pleased with this as it basically means we can have 87 people for only an extra £140

    Good luck L x

On our venues advice, parents of those under 2 are asked to bring something with them, the venue will be happy to put something in the fridge and/or heat up.

Children are classified as 2-12 for us. However I will be providing my 13 yr old cousin with one as he's such a fussy eater his mum said theres no point wasting an adult meal on him!!!

Wow Nutella I am quite shocked that your venue has recommended that!!! I mean you wouldn't go to a restaurant and take food from home for your 1yr old, how bizarre! As a guest I would be a little annoyed at having to bring food for them with me. I would rather pay for them to have a proper meal alongside us, and I would probably ask the B&G if I could in fact do that at my own cost.

I'm not a parent so I don't have first hand expereince of what little ones eat but all our under 2 parents have said this is preferable to them and think its a great idea!!!

I'm quite happy with it too because I'm not going to pay £25 for a meal to be mushed up!!

Most of our under 2's are actually 10months or younger though. I'm sure if there was a child at the upper end of the under 2 spectrum whose parent felt they could eat what was on offer I'd have no problem paying for it!

My nephew who is 1 in aug is a very good eater and my sister is having to order him his own kids meals when we go out.

Maybe speak to the individual parents for there advice. My sister would welcome a meal for her kids!

Our venue are doing half price for children, and we have a choice of serving them half portions of the choice menu or something like chicken nuggets and chips depending on what their parents guidance.

Toddlers are being taken care of by the parents too! So, again, with Nutella on that one.
