Venue Rant - Any other venues in Lincs?

MrsMac2be, 22 February, 2011 at 08:13 Posted on Planning 0 22

I really loved the Venue when we first went to see it so much that I have now paid the deposit, however, after numerous phone messages left and an email sent at the weekend with still no reply I am getting a little fed up with them, all I am asking from them is a price....

They havent confirmed how much it will be to hire the room for the ceremony/reception, the drinks package, the wedding breakfast and whether the chef is happy to do the canapes for us and if so again the price for these... Its not too much to ask surely?

My worry is that if they are not commuicative now with 17 months to go then what on earth are they going to be like with only a few months/weeks left...?

Any suggestions on what to do or if any there are any other "nice" venues in Lincolnshire area please?

It may be that they can't actually confirm the prices for definite yet because it's too early to say with 17 months to go. Venues tend to give prices with a validity of around 12 months so that could be one reason but it doesn't excuse them for ignoring your emails and phone calls. Did you get a brochure when you went to visit and a rough costing then as this is usually the norm with venues which gives you an idea of how expensive they are before you commit to paying a deposit.

I have the price (ish) for their 2010 ceremony/reception room hire and thats it...

Surely they would have some idea of what the drinks package/food would cost?

I've done a couple weddings at The West Retford Hotel in Retford which is just off the A1 and not far from Grantham - seems quite a popular venue.

Before we booked our venue i was seriously looking at the white hart in lincoln, right next to the cathedral. Looks stunning and they have been more than happy to answer all my niggly questions.

Few ideas for you. Don't know how they fit with your budget and/or guest list size though.

Yes, we did go along and have a look but I was NOT impressed, the reception room was so dated, peeling paint on the walls...

My OH was best man at a friends wedding at Hemswell Court, it was really nice... the food was yummy and the bedrooms were gorgeous! - I do have some strange priorities.

We have friends getting married in town and having there reception in the orangery - forget the name of the hotel but believe it's on/ in the lawns.

My OH's from Lincoln but I don't know it too well so not sure if the above are feasible.

    Hi KBS,

I am based in the Lincolnshire area, if you need any help just let me know.

Regarding the venue that you have booked, if you could pm me with the name of your venue, maybe I could help.

On another note, a friend of mine got married at the Carre Arms in sleaford, they're now licensed for civil ceremonies. I think it was well priced and they have a courtyard that they use quite often.

Lincolnshire is a big county and there's not a huge selection of venues to choose from that will be fairly close to you - we struggled to find one that we really liked and to our budget in Lincoln.

Belton Woods is in Grantham, and is so far as I'm aware a lovely venue, so is also one to consider.

Hi KBS this very much sounds like how my venue were to begin with and the fact that the wedding planner has now changed is good news for me! Once our wedding was booked and deposit paid and as the time approaches they are sooo much better than they were. We are getting married in Lincs and I am beginning to think its the same venue! All I can say is (at the moment) i'm so glad I stuck with it as i'm loving all the plans and wish our day would hurry up and get here! Smiley smile

apologies for the confusion - meant to quote above paragrah from Phoenix, this is the Charlotte House Hotel in Lincoln - with the Orangery, not the one that KBS is having problems with - not sure which one that is.

First of all, why would you pay a deposit with a venue without knowing what they are going to charge you?

secondly you are in a good bargaining position to get them to hold their 2011 prices for your booking in 2012
