Venue Recommendations for Yorkshire Area :)

Chez2k, 12 February, 2009 at 14:22 Posted on Planning 0 18

I have been looking at venues online and requested info from a few places but can't make my mind up.

We haven't been to see any as yet.

Just wondering if any Yorkshire brides can recommend any venues and if possible if I can have a nosey at your pics??

We live in Leeds, but would look at any area of Yorkshire.

We want a civil ceremony and reception at the same place.

Thanks

Cheryl

    Hi,

Were getting married in Leeds too ? and having our reception at Waterton hall hotel in Wakefield. Its absolutely stunning, its on a little island surrounded by a lake, you have to cross a bridge to get to it which they decorate with bows and ribbons.

    Hi Cheryl

just thinking of a few places we have worked in recently

Oulton Hall - gorgeous venue, exceptionally helpful staff

Waterton Park as already mentioned, some stunning pic opportunities and never heard a bad word about the place or its service

Goldsborough Hall Nr Knaresborough, very nice stately home kind of place but with a very personal feel, lovely location

Monk Fryston Hall Nr Leeds is also nice, has quite an eerie feeling, may be just me though!!

Thorpe Park Hotel, very modern, complete contrast to all of the above but a nice venue in its own right and has an on site spa so great for your guests

bridge Inn at Wetherby, one of the nicer hotels we go to, only down side i find is that there can be up to 3 weddings on the same day and not many communal areas for different sets of guests if you know what i mean

holdsworth house in Halifax lovely setting nice photo opps

Wood Hall hotel, wetherby - OMG what a stunning location

then of course there are some lovely hotels that offer good service

Holiday Inn BRighouse - dont be put off by the holiday inn label, done out to a very high standard inside and very flexible

St Pierre Wakefield - great staff, nice modern hotel

Oakwood Hall Bingley - nice but hard to get to for guests

Wentbridge house Pontefract again a nice venue, seem to be quite flexible

top of my head thats about all i can come up with but am sure theres plenty more lovely places

    Tracy xx

    No probs!
We get married on 10th of July, 5 months to go yay! They have dedicated wedding planners who are really really nice and helpful. they also do reduced rate rooms for your guests if any of them wanted to stay. we did look at the civil ceremony room which was in the new part of the hotel, it was all set up for a wedding and looked absolutely gorgeous! we also had a nosy at the reception room when it was set up and it looked fabulous, i just fell in love with it straight away!

Also my best friend (and chief bridesmaid!) is getting married next august at weetwood hall in leeds:

    https://weetwood.co.uk/

Thats really lovely there too, i went to a wedding fair there with her and the wedding planner lady took us to look at all the rooms, she was lovely and the venue is gorgeous too. on top of that, my brother and his fiance are hoping to get married here next year

Everyone is getting married! its fab im a bridesmaid twice next year hopefully if my brother books!

    Hope this helps xxx

    Chez2k,

We're getting married at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery with our reception at the Great Victoria hotel in the centre of Bradford. The Corniche room is gorgeous and the 'wedding planner' is very flexible and will let you do whatever you want (within reason!). We initially ruled out Bradford because it has a reputation of being a bit of a dump, but this hotel is fab - historic building with a modern interior. Check it out on the Tomahawk hotels website. They have a room licensed for civil ceremonies which holds up to 60.

I've been to a very high brow do (not a wedding though) at Wood Hall and it was excellent! Gorgeous venue for weddings.

We got married at Cedar Court Hotel in Wakefield (just off J39 on the M1) and it was fantastic. Couldn't recommend them highly enough. They bent over backwards to accommodate us.

Another vote for Waterton Hall in Wakefield - stunning! Smaller but equally as nice, The Rock Hotel in Halifax, Holdsworth House, Halifax, Tankersley Manor in Barnsley, Gomersal Park Hotel in Cleckheaton. Hope that helps.

Oh just remembered Hazlewood Castle at Tadcaster and Carlton Towers near Selby (although not sure if Carlton Towers are up and running again as they had a massive fire I think?)

My favourites are Allerton Castle, Hazlewood Castle and Hassop Hall (that last one is a bit outside the area you're looking at, it's about 30 minutes from Sheffield in the Peak District, but it is gorgeous and the service is impeccable).

Waterton Park looks great, but they usually have 2 weddings a day going on, one in the old part and one in the new. They time them so you don't share the garden during the drinks reception, but after the meal when they turn the rooms over for the evening functions, the guests have no nowhere to go except Charlie's bar. Nearly every single time we'ev been there, that's the time 2 brides will share the bar and it just doesn't give that great a feeling. Just my opinion.

We looked at Waterton Park. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, but inside it's really rather scruffy. Completely put us off.

I agree about the inside looking scruffy. Also, we looked round there as we originally wanted to have our reception at the house on the island but the evening reception room put us off... quite small, not a lot of natural light coming through.

We went for Oulton Hall in the end, not had wedding yet (is in 4 weeks) but all the contact we have had with them has been brilliant. The wedding planner there really knows her stuff and they cannot be accommodating enough.

Depends on your budget really I think... do you have an idea how big your wedding is going to be or how much you are wanting to spend per head? That could rule some places out straight away. x

Sledmere House on the Yorkshire wolds is beautiful. It is halfway between Malton and Driffield.

It is the family home of Sir Tatton Sykes, and the village of Sledmere is very quaint. Up till recently most of the villagers worked for the estate.

I think they use the wonderful library upstairs for marriages, and Plum Sykes had her wedding there in 2005.
