Venues Venues Venues!

meggles24, 23 June, 2009 at 16:40 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hey everyone!

I'm newly engaged and we're plannign on getting hitched next summer...

We've been pretty flexible with our dates and also with the location (anywhere south of Nottingham all the way to the coast) However this has meant that looking for venues "by region" is pretty impossible! My Father is a Rev but without a license so we're getting married in a registry office followed by a blessing by my dad.

We're hoping to not have to fork out far too much fpr the Reception but like the look of country houses- anywhere with a good backdrop would be the best! Hoping to have a buffet style meal rather than sit down and maybe a marquee- of course all the places we've looked at are costing a small fortune for the venue hire plus marquee so we haven't even thought about how much the catering will set us back.

Does anyone have any recommendation? How much have you ended up paying for your venues and what did they offer you with the price> (cheeky question i know!)

We've been looking at loads but are worried we've set our sights too high! I'm sure it will work out fine eventually- just pressured to book somewhere quick before the spaces go!

Welcome! One big tip I can offer if you want to save money is to marry any day other than a Saturday. Also summer is high season, so if you could possibly wait a bit and marry in the autumn that would also cost less.

Another tip is never be afraid to ask what they can do on the price. Don't ask, don't get!

    Ali xx

Wow, sounds like you've got a pretty massive area!! guess it mainly depends on how many guests you are having and if you need to accomodate them, depending how far they are coming from. We are getting married in a beautiful hotel/ country house that is on a great lake and golf course, in the outskirts of horsham and its lovely, but only has 17 rooms, so may not suit.

maybe a few more details and im sure someone will be able to help!!!

Yeh we need to narrow it down- but we don't really have many restrictions! We are looking at up to 150 for our reception, and as our budget probs won't be huge- we'll just be recommending local hotels rather than forking out for overnight accommodation

We are keen to get married in summer as we'd like a buffet and the use of outdoor space.. Hmmm am i being too picky? x

I'm the same as you. i had to look in 4 counties for a reception due to where we live and where family members live. i used the hitched reception search and just sat and went through loads and wrote down the ones i liked. then i sat and went through that list with OH and we got it down to 7 venues to visit all in order of favourite to least favourite on the list

Well our venue has 17 rooms (which the guests pay for themselves) and there are lots of local hotels/ B&Bs and our wedding sounds like its the same sort of size as your. We are having 80 guests to our wedding/meal and 150 for the evening and buffet. We have opted for a church, but you will find quite a few venues will only be licenced for 60 guests at the actual wedding.

Might be worth looking at ours-

    http://www.manningsheathhotel.com/

Its a fab venue, which you get exclusive use of and i think its great value, the venue costs for our needs are approx 5k all in.

    Good luck looking!!

Whoo good news- We have to viewings this weekend, started looking closer to my house just as a start and seemed to have come up trumps...

One of them is just a simple barn but i think it could be really nice-

The other is a huge hotel and they seem pretty cheap- so we're gonna go and have a look round and see what the catch is!

till then... Still looking like a mad woman!
