Venues- West Midlands-Just about ready to give up!

Leachar87, 26 February, 2013 at 12:44 Posted on Planning 0 25

I've been angaged now for a whole month! It feels like longer...We wanted to get things moving asap to avoid a 5 year engagement situation. But really I am at the end of my tether. It seems what I want out of a venue and what I can actually afford are two very different things Smiley sad

We're willing to travel anywhere in the South Staffs/Warwick/B'ham/Shrophire area. Are after a venue that is exclusive use does Cilvil Ceremonies and can cater for a Wedding Breakfast for 60 poeple and an evening do for 100-120. We were looking at April 2015 to give us plenty of time.

I peronally would like a venue I can stay over at, with a bridal suite, and somewhere for me and my girls to get ready before the ceremony. For the Venue Hire and food we had budgeted for £6000/£6500 at a push but are really finding it hard to get anything below £7K. I think this maybe because I want something a bit "different" perhaps rustic, bare bricks etc.

If anyone can offer up some advice I would be eternally greatful! ?

So far we have looked at:-

Packington Moor - Lichfield (£10,558) (my DREAM venue ?)
Mythe Barn - Atherstone (£8,850 - Thursday Wedding to cut costs)
Hogarths - (£7,100 - Had to move date into March to accomodate smaller wedding party)
Botanical Gardens (£6068 - Not Exclusive Use and the OH is refusing to budge!)
Aston Villa (£5250 - Well within budget but I can't help feeling like I am givig up my wedding dreams for Paul to spend more time at his beloved club!)

    Hi!

I know how you feel regarding the Villa ground as a venue, I had to tear my OH away from there and keep reminding him our colous scheme isnt claret and blue ?

Our venue is Hogarths and I love it. If it helps at all I know a few people who have had weddings there and heard no bad reviews!

have you looked at Hampton Manor in Hampton in Arden? it is exclusive and has accommodation, my dream venue but unfortunately wasnt big enough for us!

another one I looked at was Warwick House in southam, again exclusive with accommodation and looks a gorgeous venue

Good luck with your search and congratulations on the engagement Smiley smile xx

It is horrible when you find your dream venue and it's over budget! I have shot at all those venues above (apart from the football grounds) and they are stunning!

Have a look at this venue - Baddesley Clinton

They have a gorgeous little Church hidden away in the trees and then you could ask them how much their restaurant is to hire? The trouble is I'm not sure how many they could fit in at night.

Not sure if these are still in your area "net" but what about

    Brownsover Hall Rugby

    Ansty Hall M69 M6 junction

I have loads of photos from my past weddings at each if you want to see what the venues look like.

When you say exclusive use when ever I am at a venue that is not exclusive use, whatever else is going on does not tend to get in the way of the wedding. And even when it is exclusive you still will have hotel guests (public) that are staying the week end

Brownsover Hall and also then click for the slide show for each

    Ansty Hall

Also warrick house looks like this and my avatar was also taken at a warrick house wedding

I got married at Blakelands. We spent about £ 4500/5000 I think.

Their site is down at the moment, but here’s a couple of pics.

I can’t find one with the ceremony room on full display! Sorry.

Ansty Hall is a lovely venue, we have done a few weddings there and the reception room, bar etc is in a separate part of the building to the rest of the hotel so even if you don't manage to get exclusivity it is pretty secluded from the rest of the hotel anyway ?

My god, this sounds EXACTLY like my current situation. My ultimate venue would be Packington or at the very least a rustic barn/country house of some sort. There are so few in the area! Smiley sad

I am due to see Avoncroft Museum and Berrow Court but i know i probably won't like them as much a PM.

I have been engaged since January - venue choosing is not enjoyable.

Just to add a couple of other suggestions:

We're doing a couple of weddings at Mythe Barn this year, not sure of prices tho- http://www.mythebarn-weddings.co.uk/

And I'm biased as we're based there but Fazeley Studios in Birmingham CC is lovely! - http://www.fazeleyevents.co.uk/

    Hi there,

I looked at quite a few in this area as well here are a few that could fit the bill

The Limes - our friends got married here - only reason i didn;t pick it!

Wroxall abbey - not exclusive but can have part of it to yourselves

I'm also getting married at Hogarths and I'd be interested to know how you guys have found it so far. Not sure if I have high expectations but i haven;t been that impressed so far. I have less than 3 months to go and they don;t return my calls, have tried to overcharge my guests for rooms and as i'm getting married at 12pm have said i'll have to pay for a room to get ready in or i can use the corridor!! Please tell me this is just a run of bad luck!!

Went to a beautiful wedding a few years ago at Walton Hall, Wellsbourne . As guests we loved staying there as the rooms were great and the venue itself impressed at the wedding. Could be expensive, I wouldn't know though. Sx

I'm getting married here http://www.heartofengland.co.uk/index.php/weddings_in_the_midlands/1 I didn't think I could afford it but having a hot & cold buffet for the wedding breakfast instead of a 3 course sit down meal meant I could. I'm paying just over £7k for 90 day guests, 160 in the evening, 30 bottles of wine, their DJ, canapes for 60, room hire & a bar extension. Apart from possible diners in their restaurant the whole place is yours. I'm getting married in the smaller function room upstairs, having canapes in the restaurant & terrace, the wedding breakfast in their permanet marquee & the evening do in their big function suite. They have a country house on site which is absolutely gorgeous. It has 7 rooms & the bridal suite is fab.

We're getting married at The Granary just outside of Kidderminster. http://www.granary-hotel.co.uk/ I'm not sure what their prices are for 2015 but for getting married in 2013 they were doing 60 at the wedding breakfast & 100 evening guests for £5000, with the bridal suite included and various other bits and pieces included. It's not a huge place so they only do one wedding a day. Their staff have all been really friendly and helpful to us so far as well, especially considering I have a habit of emailing loads of questions at a time! ?

Also try Pendrell Hall near Wilverhampton - it's being completely refurbed, ready May this year. A couple of my firends have booked in for next February.

Have you considered Catthorpe Manor? They do sole occupancy, have accomodation at reasonable prices, and are flexible with what you want.

What do you mean by exclusive use? Ie no other wedding, or no other hotel guests, golfers full stop?

If you are just after being the only wedding that day, and do not mind a few golfers/ hotel guests then you should look into our wedding venue, the Welcombe hotel Stratford Upon Avon. Its a beautiful old house and they have a gorgeous room called the Nestfield Suite in which you can hold any part of your day, we are getting married in there and having our wedding breakfast, it has beautiful bare brick arches but it might not have the entire rustic feel you want

it'll come in at around £6k for everything you want

Like going to the chapel, we are getting married in Stratford upon Avon at the Alveston Manor. It's costing us about 5.5k for 70 day 120 evening. When I looked into other places in Stratford ours is one of the more expensive venues but I've wanted to get married there as long as I can remember!

Have you looked at Coombe abbey? I went to a wedding a few years ago and I know they got a really good deal!

    Hope you find somewhere soon!
