Venues who host other 'non-wedding' events

Birdie, 11 February, 2009 at 20:27 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi All,

I just wanted to post a quick message to those of you who have booked venues who hold other events. My friend booked her venue 18 months in advance but has just had to find a new venue as, with 5 months to go, it was announced in the local press that they were holding a music festival over her weekend. It may be worth you doing a quick google search of your date + venue as if my friend had thought to do this (although, why would she after paying a deposit ?) then she would have know about the festival last summer, as NME did.

Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else

x

My venue is just over the road from brands hatch racing circuit, so i have been constantly googling our date to make sure there are no big racing meets on - i'm ok so far.

have to say though, why has your friend moved her wedding? how does the festival affect her wedding? can't the two events happen at the same time?!?

She's moved it as they are having 50,000 + people there. We're talking country lanes of Kent so traffic will be a nightmare and she is not sure if her guests will make it through, let alone her horse & cart. Plus they offer outdoor weddings so she is worried about the noise.

Glad to hear you are ok though

Ok i don't quite understand - is she having it at the same place as the festival? or just nearby? is her venue a big one?

Yep, the venue is a big one (outdoor area wise) and is (was) hosting both the 3 day festival and her wedding....one entrance, car park etc from what I understand. She is in the local papers this week.

I don't want to cause any trouble, which is why i am not naming them, I just know how stressful it all is (i got married last year) so wanted to help other brides if I could

Ok i think i know which venue she is having her wedding at, and ok i think that could be a bit of a situation. is there no side entrance she could have used? saying that, they did have a music festival/massive gig there on the same weekend last year.....

Nope, no side or back entrance that we know of (or they suggested). They did have a festival last year yes, but she assumed they would have mentioned when she booked or told her before the press got hold of it (which was because it required planning permission)

I just thought I should mention in case it helps anyone else. I've only lurked really for 2 years but I could not have done without hitched. In fact, i found our photographer in a thread on here.

Our venue is hosting a 'race for life event' on the day of our wedding!!

Im feeling a bit stressed about it! But Im trying not to worry tooooo much, Im hoping that by the time we get married it will just be the stragglers trying to get to the finishing line!

Im hoping that people are feeling extra fit that day and sprint around the park before i arrive, so I dont get knocked over by ladies in pink lycra!!!
