This venue is in East Yorkshire, but I went to a wedding here and the location was beautiful:

    Rowley Manor:

What sort of budget are you looking at?

    Thanks Naboo

Travelling isn't a problem so would appreciate your suggestions. We both love York but wouldn't know where to start for a wedding our size.

Having not looked at these places I do not know the minimum they will cater for so you would have to have a look, I found when i was looking most places are much more flexible on numbers if you are having your wedding mid week

I went to uni in York, and it's a beautiful city, so I'm wracking my brains for you.

Judges Lodgings might be good - they have multiple function rooms, it's centrally located, and there are plenty of opportunities for beautiful photos in the gardens adjacent (York Museum Gardens)

    http://www.judgeslodgings.com/

The Royal York Hotel is also lovely, opposite the train station. I get the feeling it will be a more pricey venue than Judges, but it could be what you are looking for.

Lendal Cellars is where I spent much of my student days, but it's now had a refurb and the cellars are gorgeous. They used to do private functions in the cellars, which are stunning. It's opposite Judges.

Finally, there are some quaint small hotels out towards Bootham, just outside the city walls. Churchill's springs to mine (a quick google gave me this link: http://www.churchillhotel.com/functions/weddings ).

Melissa (sick, off work, and thus posting lots today!)

    Chevin Lodge, Otley

    Nostell Priory

    Harewood House

    Bagden Hall, Scissett

All these have smaller ceremony rooms and Nostell is particularly reasonable with good discounts for 2011! My daughter looked at them all.

I'm getting married at Hey Green in November next year. Obviously I think it is completely gorgeous!

I've also been to a couple at Bagden Hall and they are lovely too.

    Hello!

Not sure if it's already been mentioned - Merchant Adventurer's Hall in York.

    http://www.theyorkcompany.co.uk/private-hire-weddings.php

My brother had his reception there - not sure on your size but it has two floors (they had evening reception downstairs and reception meal upstairs), and fit a fair few,

From discussions with my now sister-in-law it was very reasonable price wise, and is in centre of York so good location wise

    Good luck Jo!

Incidentally - and this may not work for everyone - but to find our venue we just jumped in the car (well scooter) and drove around the countryside looking at places which looked like good venues. We found quite a few good options this way.

Bagden looks nice but my friend got married there earlier this year and had lots of problems. The food wasn't up to much either.

Depending on budget. I warmly recommend Harewood House! It was cheaper than The Mansion in Roundhay Park, Leeds!!!! The courtyard is where we are having ours:

I'm about 2 mins from ponte. We have loads of family that live in and around ponte as well.

We looked at most of the places that have been mentioned already. But we decided on Tankersley Manor which is near Barnsley.

The venue was beautiful and the staff were amazing. I can't praise them enough.

With your numbers there are two different parts of the hotel that you can have depending on what you want. We had 67 guest so not far of your number and we decided to pay a teeny bit more to have to bigger part which included the ceremony in the barn and then the breakfast and evening in the tankersley suite which has chandeliers, etc.

During the day they section off the tankersley suite to suite your numbers so that the room doesn't look to big and then for the evening they open it back up.

They do packages which includes the food and drinks and a few others bits, and I thought it was a really good deal.

Obviously depends what style venue you want and your budget, but I would definately recommend it.

    xxx

Well we went to look around there for our wedding but I found that staff very unfriendly. It's just like you're on a conveyer belt - they're not interested in what you as a couple want. We wanted some alternative choices for the evening food, we just wanted something simple like pie & peas but they were like, these are the packages take it or leave it. That is not what we wanted at all.

They made some silly mistakes on my friend's like getting her OH's surname wrong even after she'd told them time and time again. They didn't move some of the decorations and things like they were supposed too. They messed all the timings up too so we didn't get into the night room til about 9 I think. Also, there was no wedding planner there after about 2pm as it was the end of her shift - on a Saturday!

The food was terrible too. I could have done a better job for the buffet by spending £100 in Iceland and I know for a fact that was at least £20 a head. I know how much it costs to get married there and I would have been gutted had it been me.

We really struggled to get somewhere that didn't make you feel like thy were taking you for a ride.
