Video of the day...

Hepburn, 14 May, 2008 at 15:06 Posted on Planning 0 6

I would like to ask someone (a guest) to video the day for us, wondering if it's cheeky to ask someone though...?

It needs to be someone with a video camera and a steady hand so I'll need to do somedetective work, but is it rude to ask someone to film it for us?

Opinions please...

I'm filming two friend's weddings this Summer where I'm also a guest (but I am a videographer hib) and while I'm happy to do it for them, it does take a little bit of the fun of the day away as I can't just sit back and take in what's happening. But, if you're definitely not going to get a professional film done, then I would certainly ask someone who you think won't mind. Think about what you want them to do - just film the ceremony? from their seat in which case they might have a limited view? If they don't have a tripod it might be worth buying or borrowing one for whoever will be filming. Also be aware the sound won't be great on a handheld camera.

My husband used to get asked a lot when he was a teenager as he was vaguely arty and technologically minded - and he was bored at weddings anyway!!

I actually have a video camera which could be used, though it's a bit old...

We just want the ceremony and speeches filmed really, was thinking of asking SIL2B's boyfriend to do it... he doesn't know us that well but it would get him involved...?

I don't think it's rude at all if anything it is asking someone to be part of the day.

Any video is better than none. But you can make it far better if your guest gets a little filming advice. A level tripod is essential for the speeches and try to get all the guests covered not just their close friends. If you need help, just ask. There are quite a few experienced video hibs about most days.

    Thank you ?

I will ask a guest if they are happy to do it and then come back on here for some advice! Cheers x

We have put on our info website a wee line about bringing video cameras and that we'd like as many as possible, but my sisters boyfriend is doing most of the honours and was delighted to be asked.
