Videographer advice - Particularly OMs?

MrsCWB, 24 May, 2014 at 12:36 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hey all,

Right, Mum has been really ill again recently. This has got me worried that I have no films of her talking or doing things that I will be able to look back on in the future. So, as the wedding is in a few months, I have started looking into wedding videographers. I think having a wedding video which would include lots of film of her would be fabulous.

What I want to know, is do you think it's worth the money? I am on a very tight budget as it is, and the amount of extra shifts I am going to have to do to get the money together is going to be horrendous. Should I just get people to film stuff on their phones?

Do you have any recommendations for videographers in Hampshire? Particularly low priced ones?

Did you have a wedding video and regret it? Or never watch it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance ladies (and gents).

First time round, I wasn't planning on having a videographer. Then someone posted on here that they were just starting out and did anyone want a videographer for cost of travel and the DVDs. I got the wedding video for £70 and, with Dad having passed away 11 days after the wedding, I'm so grateful I did it.

I bet if you look around you'll be able to find someone who could do it for a reasonable price for you. Are there any arts colleges near you where you could make an offer to a student about to graduate?

We're using a videographer that covers the Hampshire area. Their website is video4aday.co.uk. They're fairly reasonably priced as videographers go! X

Hi, we love our video as we got to see a lot of stuff we wouldn't otherwise on the day. For example, I got to see shots of my hubby arriving at the venue, getting his buttonhole pinned and walking around with his Best Man. He got to see me getting out of the car, all nervous, nearly being set on fire by the tea-lights the venue had put on both sides of the stairs I was having to climb to get to the ceremony room and me laughing hysterically... And we have now on film his gran who doesn't leave the house much and this was the last party she actually dressed up for and attended by herself so it's precious.

We found a brilliant and reasonably-priced videographer, they couldn't do enough for us, and lovely husband and wife team - recommended by our photographer - and he was an ex-Yorkshire Television cameraman, retired and working with his wife. If they were closer to you, I'd say give them a try - they do travel too, but may charge for travel. They're Phase 5 Productions.

    Good luck!

A friend shot ours who is just branching out into weddings.

I wasn't keen on having a VOG but I am glad we did it is nice to look back on the bits you miss during the day and would recommend getting a VOG to anyone who is unsure.

She is based in London but does travel and as she is just starting out is budget friendly. http://www.takes2videos.com/

It is my one regret. I wish we'd had a videographer but I was talked out of it. :-(

I'd like a video, but we just don't have the budget for it. I'm going to ask a friend to record the ceremony, and maybe bits and pieces of the reception too

    Thank you all so much!

I am going to have to do loads of extra shifts, but I know now it will be worth it! I'll keep that in mind when I'm working all those hours lol!
