Videographer or not?

conwc002, 7 September, 2012 at 11:56 Posted on Planning 0 21

Not sure whether to get a videographer. We've got quite a tight budget but is it going to be one of those things that we wished we had got? What are you all doing? X

For me, I think it's either do it properly (Shutterboox/Kissing Gate/Reel Love) or not at all. I've yet to see anything half decent being offered for less than around £1300.

The consensus seems to be they're something most people would like, but not a necessity, but those who have them say they're the one thing they're so glad they stretched to.

I wasn't too fussed about having one but saw an AMAZING video posted on here yesterday and now it's all I can think about! *sigh*

Have you looked into Shoot It Yourself? You hire the cameras, film and send it back and they edit everything. Their website has really good examples on there! Lots cheaper than having someone do it all for you.

I was having the same thoughts when wedding planning but am so glad I did it. I booked with Reellovefilms that someone has previously mentioned and they tailor it to your day so have a word with a few VOGS and tell them your budget and see what they can do. Ours left after 1st dance and we got ready at venue so that cut the cost and the time they were there down considerably.

We haven't booked one but I can't stop thinking about about the male voice choir we have booked and stuff I won't notice because I'll be preoccupied with my nerves etc and I would really like to watch it back but we haven't got the budget so one of our ushers is going to film it for us just so we can see what it was like.

Not having one, it'll be bad enough having to have so many photos taken - at least you get the chance to pull your tummy in before the photo is taken. You don't with a video.

My advice is go for it! It doesn't have to break your budget at all, my husband and I are a husband and wife video/photo team and I am sure there are quite a few of us out there who shoot both stills and video. We had our wedding filmed, and, to be honest we don't watch the DVD very often, but take it out each anniversary to relive the day - our kids are tickled pink when watching us. It's fun to look back at the ceremony, the music and special friends sang Amazing Grace in the Ceremony which was very special, they did it as a surprise and whilst photos capture the event, the video really does bring it all to life.

We didn't have one, it wasn't high up my agenda but it's down to personal taste really.

If we had plenty of money and wouldn't notice the extra gone from the bank, we would have one. Seeing as we don't have plenty of money and would definitely notice it gone from the bank account we're just going to designate a few of the more sensible people to video the ceremony, cake cutting, first dance etc, maybe go round and see if people want to leave a little message (not sure if this would just annoy people) then set it up on a tripod to get all the dancing. I love my aunts and uncles ones and OHs parents and the crappy quality adds a certain something for me. Quality isn't a massive issue as I'll have the pictures to show my dress and cake etc in detail.

I got one at the last minute. It was only £250.

It was the best money I have ever spent.

My regret is that I never paid more and had a full day of filming.

You will not know they are there. You will see things on the DVD that you will either forget or never got to see (guests arriving, nervous groom etc.)

I wish I had dropped the photographer and spent more money on the VOG.

Hi there. The feed back we get is it's the best money they ever spent and worth every penny. See our reviews!! The shoot it yourself option is a totally different style and actually isn't cheap at all. I was surprised by their examples as the white balance hadn't been corrected and the editing was quite basic.

Check out our off peak rates and our photo packages!!

We go where the love is................................

When we were planning our wedding, my h2b was adamant that we weren't having a videographer (I wanted one) then we saw one at a wedding fayre and he completely changed his mind after watching a few sample DVDs so we stretched our budget to accommodate one - he tells people now that it was the best thing ever! I'm not being biased because I'm a videographer - I wasn't back then, it was our wedding video that inspired us to become what we are today!

Wedding filming ranges in pricing from a few hundred pounds to thousands. It's all about what you want from it. Ones that charge more for instance give you more of movie finish - hours of filming, colour grading, cinematic effect gadgets, that costs hundreds of pounds plus hours and hours editing to make a beautiful film - it's not about just putting clips together for us it's more Smiley smile. It's the editing that is most time consuming but putting it all together certainly brings a smile to my face! If you can make your budget stretch then its something I doubt you'll regret - shop around watch lots of samples online and get a feel for the videographer, style etc. Shoot it Yourself is a fabulous concept but it is no cheaper than hiring a pro for the day - what it is great for is for those wanting a video of their day but hate the idea of some stranger filming it they can feel totally relaxed in front of the camera with friend or family member filming! The cons - that person filming may forget to press record from time to time! HTH - have fun with the rest of your planning!

I love my wedding video, I watch the highlights reel all the time!

Video captures something that photographs can't... I would highly recommend mine. You can see the highlights video from the linky in my signature.
