Videographers - Odd Request

Irefusetobecalm, 4 October, 2012 at 14:49 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hiyas,

I wonder if there are any vidders out there who could give me some advice.

HTB wants our wedding recorded, if he wants that he can have it, I'm not too fussed, but I want to be able to edit the footage...I'm a film editor and would want to have all the raw footage from the day.

Do you think vid people would allow that? I'd happily let them have a copy of the vid when it's done, but I want editorial control - I'm a bit of a backseat driver Smiley winking

I'd film it myself, but err I'm gonna be otherwise engaged LOL

I am sure that some would do that but I doubt you would get a huge discount unless your wedding is off season.

Cheers, I wouldn't be worried about a discount, I just want it to be my version of the day Smiley winking

If you're a film editor do you not have some video contacts you could call on to come and film the day?

Or have you thought about asking a few guests?

It's a small wedding family only - I am sure there will be some iPhones about, and I edit animation, so the camera people are far too small to be able to film live action (joke!Apart from the animation bit, which i what I do).

As an editor, surely you would be concerned about the sound quality....phones will be awful.

Nobody wants to show their weak hand.

If a couple wanted to see every photo I took there would be some hideous stuff in there. The same can be expected from video, anyone decent can afford to say no to you. But your motives and reasoning are perfectly understandable. Some believe in delivering a finished product though.

    There's no harm in asking!

I don't have an issue with this as such, but a lot of the footage I shoot will use flat log type picture profiles, (which absolutely need grading) or sometimes even be RAW and will often weigh in at 160Gb. I have had couples ask if they can have all the footage and as long as they understand what all of this means in terms of storage and editing/colour correcting/grading etc. then that is fine.

A videographer who shall remain nameless (not me BTW) had this request after he delivered his final film and obliged, only to realise a week later that a lock off shot of the reception had recorded a conversation between him and the tog discussing the bridesmaids.

So any vogs out there stay silent at all times lest it come back to bite you ; )
