Vile boss update

Doughnut, 30 June, 2009 at 17:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

Fortunately I've not seen him for nearly two weeks as he's been off sick. He said he'll be off for 4 days then rings on the day he's meant to come back saying he'll be off another couple of days, then rings the day he's due back etc etc. He answers some people's emails but is ignoring mine ? The work is building up and up and I can't see him coming back really as the mountain is just too big. He is very inefficient and too wrecked/ tired/ lazy to do any work when he comes in so he will never catch up on it all or meet any of the deadlines. I just can't see how he can stay there.

Yesterday I found a job similar to mine but more interesting and more responsibility and a pay band higher, in the same organisation. I am hanging all my hopes on getting it ?

Hmm, doesn't sound like it's any more bearable even when he's not there. What does his ineffectual boss say now the work is mounting up in his absence?

Thanks. It is a much better job and quite an exciting new role, using the skills I've built up in other jobs plus what I've learned in this role. My counterpart isn't going for it (she doesn't have a degree or good IT skills with are under 'essential') which is good as I'd feel uncomfortable about that.

    Fingers crossed eh!

She's quiet at the best of times so it's hard to know. I guess it doesn't help that she keeps expecting him back then he rings in for a couple more days. Cancelling stuff last-minute is very much his working style.

She mentioned to one of the PMs today about him 'underperforming' and said to a different PM the week before last that she didn't know what to do about him. I think one of the problems is that he thinks he's sh/t-hot and the org we work for is crap, and shouts loudly about it a lot. He is very defensive to the point of being intimidating and aggressive if you try and challenge him about anything (like not turning up for meetings, for instance). Her boss (as in Vile Boss' boss' boss, the director of our area) is onto him now, and doesn't take any sh/t.

Gawd, get me out of there ? It's a shame as I like the job and the other people in the dept are fab, and I've settled in well.

If he went (ie was pushed or left of his own accord), could you stand it then? Hope this new job pans out for you.

Oh yes, easily, although the job isn't challenging and there isn't enough for me to do, and its much less money and responsibility than my last job, so I have been hoping to move up.

Sounds like at least the upper management have realised what is going on which has to be progress

That said, best of luck with the new job application (more money, more interesting - sounds perfect !)
