Visiting my venue tomorrow..questions to ask

M and M, 10 November, 2010 at 18:03 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi everyone

I rang my reception venue today to find the lady who has been dealing with my wedding has left and the new manager read over my quote and seemed off about it and now saying its more for adding extra guests on than ive been quoted for my original numbers. Also that as VAT has gone up ive got extra to pay too!

I said can I pay it off now to avoid this and her response was 'well no as we still have to pay it anyway'..is this right? Has anyone else been affected by this?

I no its not a major extra expensive but it is when we havent budgeted for it and its got me really down today. I just hope i feel better after going there and discussing it tomorrow.

Taking the MIL2B too as she hasnt seen it yet and she is so excited ?

Thanks just needed to share x

Welcome to the world of hotel/reception coordinators.

    1. what do you have in writing (including brochures, contracts, letters, emails)

    2. definatally get anything else down in writing

    3. Will the new coordinator be there on the day, or will the rest of the staff be on autopiolot, reading the non-existant instructions

    4. demand to see the manager that queried the quote, and demand to see the quote they are looking at. An agreement is an agreement

If I said "well luv I know I quoted you £2000 for your photo's, but now as we are a bit nearer your wedidng i see i ought to have charged you more" you would rightly tell me where to get off

Oh we're going to see our venue tomoro as well for our planning meeting and my MIL2B is coming too for the first time, to look after DD whilst we're planning away.

Personally I think it is out of line to quote you and then raise the prices. When did you book your venue? If it was only a short time ago, surely they would have known of any VAT increase. If not then it should only be a 3% increase to take into account the VAT. If its more than that they are being cheeky. Most places put their prices up every year or so, but these are normally clearly advertised way beforehand and quoted at the time of booking. Sorry have no idea where you stand legally but i'd be having words with the manager, check your contract with them too, to see what they says about increases.

    Hope you get it sorted!

If you have the original agreed quote in writing (email) then they can not change it. We had this issue with our venue when they originally said £500 deposit then the balance to be paid 2 weeks after the wedding (strange but we thought yay more interest on the money for us) we signed the contract after we had got all the little details in writing (email) and then they told us we had to pay 90% 6 months before the wedding!!! Idont think so - enter bridezilla - my h2b had to deal with them cause I would have otld them where to stick it in quite colourful langauge Smiley smile Anyhow got it sorted a massive apology and the guarentee that if I felt I couldnt have my wedding with them I would get a full refund. Since then we get everything in writing and they cant be more helpful even allowing us to bring some food to the reception for the evening (which we're not supposed to do). Hope you get it sorted out.
