Vows ...

Elixia, 2 January, 2014 at 11:17 Posted on Planning 0 10

Okay so we have 2 months left (give or take) I haven't even thought about vows. Its more of an avoidance thing. I'm not openly mushy and easily embarrassed with that kinda stuff and use humour to cover it up. Of course this situation I don't think humor would be appropriate. does anyone else suffer from this? I'm afraid I'm going to look a right plonker on the day

We were going to do our own vows and then I realised just how uncomfortable this was making OH feel and decided that we would scrap that and stick traditional xx

If you're easily embarrassed by the mushy stuff my advice would be to go with pre-written vows, are you having a civil ceremony? I think most registrars will be able to suggest some or at least give you some templates.

Yeah its a civil ceremony and I am considering it. A lot of the options on there are still a little mushy and long winded but doable. OH wanted to write them but he's a very mushy person Smiley atonished

OH and I went through the standard ones the other day and ticked the ones we wanted to do. Neither of us is mushy and both hate public speaking so we're trying to keep it nice and short.

I've just gone for the standard ones as I'll either feel really uncomfortable or I will be a blubbering mess so can't get my words out!

I don't really like being the centre of attention so I'm hoping that the vows are over with as quickly as possible (in the nicest possible way)!

We briefly talked about writing our own and then both realised that we might sound a bit ridiculous, so we're sticking with some pre-written ones. Though we have no idea about those yet, as like Elixia it's one thing we've been avoiding doing!

We're having the standard, legal bare minimum vows as we don't do public speaking soppiness! We are having a couple of readings that are lovey, so it might be a bit of a struggle holding back the tears!

We're having a really simple registry office ceremony and we don't get to choose the vows so no point worrying - sorted!

Sorry that doesn't really help though does it?! I wouldn't worry about using humour to be honest - as long you say the official bits to make it legal - it's all good!

Sat down with OH last night and we decided to go with the ones in the books. He wants to write his own but is, like me, afraid of stage fright and getting tongue tied.
