Waaahh - woefully dull dinner

SophieM, 16 October, 2008 at 19:07 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I've been away and haven't had any proper food for what feels like ages, plus I had some veg in the fridge to finish off before tomorrow's veg box arrives, so I had the bright idea of making a vegetarian platter-type thing for dinner. So far I have:

Corn on the cob
Coleslaw
Roast pumpkin (well, it's not roast yet but it will be)
Garlic mushrooms
Grilled haloumi
Nice olive bread

I'm feeling like it's awfully boring (mostly because I hate coleslaw and its very presence depresses me)! Will loml dump me when he gets here and discovers that this is dinner? What else could I make? I have some eggs. ?

See, to me that sounds lovely, (i wanted to say deliscious but have a brain bolckage on how to spell it)

I love homemade coleslaw, the only thing i am not sure about is the pumpkin but thats only because i have never tried it as i am scared by the smell of raw pumpkin when digging them out to make lanterns <vom>

You could make some omelettes with the garlic mushrooms and cheese as a filling, would go nicely with the other stuff x

That sounds fab, it's what we call a 'picky tea', I love lots of little dishes of things.

I take it won't help if I tell you we had steak, chips, asparagus and alioli? ?

That sounds delicious! The light of my life would love that. I had oven chips, egg and mushy peas! ? Oh and a custard slice.

Get you with your steaks and your custard slices. Humph. Don't really fancy omelettes - hopefully loml will like the coleslaw, dreary stuff. ?

The grilled haloumi cancels out the boringness of the coleslaw - halloumi is sooo gorgeous. And as long as you have lashings of butter on the corn - what's not to love?

I had a mahoosive jacket spud, a garlic mushroom filled quorn thing and a huge pile of sweetcorn. Now THAT'S what I call dull! ?

Update - I am baking some fresh figs with RECH, chilli and feta. Whether they're any good remains to be seen. ?

    Thanks all.
