Wallpapering novice...

WickyWack, 27 October, 2014 at 10:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

We're biting the bullet and decorating our hall. Last night I stripped off all the old dairy milk coloured thick textured wallpaper and have some lovely lightly textured linen effect wallpaper to hang. No pattern to match up so should be relatively simple. Neither of us have hung wallpaper before so any tips or advice would be great. MIL has assured us that if she can do it, we can do it.

Ekk, here goes!!!

Follow the instructions and let the paste soak into it for at least 5 mins, or longer if it's heavier weight/vinyl. Start on the shorter bits first to get the feel of it. The long lengths you get on a hall stairs and landing are heavy and tricky so good luck!!xx

    I like wallpapering,

Make sure your blade for cutting in is sharp and you have something straight you can use for cutting along - i cant cut in straight lines!

My only thing to add is, no matter what anyone may tell you (or the instructions on the paper) it definitely isn't easier to paste the wall!

I used to paste both to aid with the positioning....

On corners, go around an inch and trim, then take the next drop in to the corner......
