Want to book flower before xmas...

Jemima Renrut, 25 November, 2012 at 17:12 Posted on Planning 0 4

We don't want to go to the flower shop completely clueless, I've been trawling though images of bouquets but sometimes the internet has a bit too much to choose from. Can anyone recommend any good magazines I can rip pictures out of? Also what do I need to think about? Who are you having flowers for apart from the obvious brides bouquet, bridesmaids, groom and best man? Any advice on how to get an accurate ish quote?

Thanks!

I booked my flowers yesterday (a work colleagues mam) my bouquet, 5 bm's, a flower girl basket filled with petals, 3 corsages, 6 buttonholes and a top table centerpiece all for £260. I am so pleased and such a good deal. My friend's mam was so helpful. I was originally going to have silk flowers but my friend suggested going to see her mam just to see what she could do. I am one happy b2b ?

This I left up to my mum to work out - flowers dont really interest me, but I knew I wanted gerbera's and I wanted what I beleive is a shower (edit: remembered the right name) bouquet? One of them dangly ones.. Also that I wanted a posie bouquet for my MOH. Honestly, I never did get any clipping or research into what I wanted it to look like. Seriously, I dont get one with flowers. To me gerberas are daisy's - and the weed daisys are the only flowers we have in the garden ?

Buttonholes were for groom, 2x bestmen, both dads and ring bearer - and OH wants to sort them, I just had to say how many at the time. We're going back in the new year to finalise.

Mum was the one who remember corsages for her and FMIL..also 2 stem vases for the ceremony room only. Again, mum decided what she wanted for these. I cant remember!

When we went and visited the one mum had picked (from recommendation of a friend of hers who'd married recently) the florist had some good recommendations that she built up around what we wanted. I'm having a mix of white husky gerbera's and white roses and some green stuff (cant remember what ?) - but with the examples she showed, it looks really good.

We got quoted for the 2 bouquets, 6 buttonholes, 2 corsages, 2 stem vases with hire of the vases too and mirror plates - and delivery on the morning, about £120. Most expensive was my boquet at around £70 I beleive..

Do you know anyone who's got married recently? Might be worth checking with them what they got quoted for your local florists, and check out their photos to see if you like the work of florist and if they were happy with the service. Picture wise, I wouldnt really worry too bad - florists are pretty good at showing you different examples, and the ones who have done a lot of weddings will have a lot of photos!

I fell in love with a florist at a wedding fair so booked up to see them.

Although they travel, they're not local to my venue so I've also met with a florist who is and am meeting another this week.

Just want to see how they interpret my ideas for flowers and also get a few quotes so I can compare

There's a couple of magazines that are quite useful for pictures. Perfect Wedding and Wedding Ideas are good especially in the 'real life wedding' sections. Seeing bouquets with actual people gives a good idea of the size of a bouquet and also how they look with different designs of dresses. Wedding Flower Magazine is OK but tends to focus quite heavily on hand-tied bouquets rather than show a whole range of styles although the photography is good so you can see close up all the various types of flowers used in the bouquets.

Your florist will also have a portfolio of all her wedding work to show you too as well as lots of designs in floristry books to browse through. Don't worry about the names of flowers as she can help with that too. If you take with you a photo of your dress, a sample of the colours that you are interested in and a rough idea of your total budget, these are the main things she will need to know. Most of all, go with an open mind and enjoy!
