Wanted! Christmas/winter wedding ideas!

Horace, 27 June, 2013 at 22:43 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hello ladies! My H2B and I are getting married on 29 November and our venue (Fennes in Essex) will be decorated for Christmas. Our colour scheme is deep purples and silver and we'll be having candelabra centrepieces surrounded by flower wreaths. I like very glittery silver snowflakes. That's about as far as i've got with the Christmas/wintry theme! I am finding it hard to find inspiration for the day because it seems that wedding magazines etc feature spring and summer weddings heavily and rarely feature winter weddings. So i'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions for everything to help get my creative juices flowing! ?

    Hiya

IF you are looking at making your own wedding stationery, I now supply laser cut blanks. I have just added a fab new Christmas design to the range. http://www.inspiremecreations.co.uk/index.php/stationery-blanks.html The website isn't fully up and running yet but you can certainly purchase the products that I have started to add.

Table names could be the reindeer's names?

Thanks for this - I am quite crafty so will be making all the wedding stationery, but I've had a hard time using the craft punch I have to make glittery snowflakes, the card is too thick. How much are the snowflakes, what material are they? Thanks

We are having mulled wine and mulled cider at the reception, and I did think about the reindeer names for the tables but I'm undecided as to whether I love that idea or think it's a bit twee! Favours so far are my biggest nightmare, we have a small budget for them but I don't want them to be naff!

If I knew how to I'd flash some pics of what I have so far!

    Hi Horace

I love the snowflakes. These are acrylic and can be bought from http://www.inspiremecreations.co.uk/index.php/embellishments/acrylic-snowflake.html

I can also do card ones for you if you would prefer. If you'd like to have a chat about your requirements then please do get in touch. *******@****************.**.**

My cousin had a Christmas themed wedding and it was lovely. Made setting the scene so easy since the hotel was decorated! I was the bridesmaid, in red and silver with a faux fur wrap, she gave me a snowflake charm for my Links bracelet as a gift.

For favours she had yankee candle samplers in Christmas Day, in cello tied with a candy cane - but I think these worked out quite expensive so may be outwith your buget.

She had a Christmas themed hen party - and for favours I made Christmas baubles personlised with each person's name, and hen party details. I did this by writing on them with a fine tip glue, then micro glitter over the top. I then changed the string for nice ribbon and added a bow. My cousin says she is delighted to see them brought out again and again and hanging on her friends' trees 3 years later, so I'll take that to mean they like them! Could that be an option for you for favours, which could double as place names? Quite cheap and you'd be able to make them yourself if are crafty!

Or how about a candy cane or chocolate snowman with a luggage label tied round them as a double place name/favour? You could also buy square favour boxes cheaply on ebay, then make them look like a parcel with ribbon and finish off with a mini candy cane on top, and fill with some chocolates?

FF - I LOVE that idea about each guest bringing a decoration for the tree, what a lovely idea.

I had a December wedding, check out my wedding report if you want to see pics. We had winter pimms at the drinks reception, a big Christmas tree and Christmassy decoration, and the favours/place settings were personalised crackers. Each one had the guest's name on the outside, then a joke, personalised chocolates and a paper hat that matched our colour scheme on the inside which went down really well.

Thank you, we really love Fennes!

That is such a cute idea! I am a fusspot about what goes on my beautifully co-ordinated Christmas tree at home but that could work brilliantly as an alternative to a guest book! I wish I could think of original ideas like that!

I was going to have a Christmas tree as a guest book when I was going to have a winter wedding (having Summer one now), I was planning on having card hearts with ribbons for the guests to write on, I could easily then compile in a book / photo album at a later date. It might be nice to have purple hearts and silver pens to write with?

I got married on 28th December last year. I don't have a wedding report up here but still have bits and pieces I found on Pinterest

We made the pine cone place holders and spray painted them gold. In the church for the pew ends I spray painted some wicker heart gold and tied them with purple ribbon and a red rose.

For favours we gave out mini baubles and tied them with purple ribbon personalised with our name and wedding date on them.

What are you having for drinks reception? You could have cold drinks as well as some hot drinks to warm everyone up, such as hot chocolate with marshmallows or coffee, with mince pies on the side perhaps Smiley smile

Are you having many children at the wedding? If you are, a lot of people hand out little goody bags to keep the kids occupied. Instead of using a bag though, you could always use a stocking and fill it with treats and things for them to do etc (and of course the stocking doesn't necessarily have to be red, it can fit your colour scheme) and winter themed things such as candy canes, there's some other sweet as well... I can't remember what it's called exactly, but it's some sort of snowball chocolate thing... It looks yummy though!

    Hi!

I filmed a wedding last December where the Childrens entertainer also appeared during the speeches as Father Christmas delivering some extra presents (keep children quiet packs) to the good little boys and girls - it was fantastic for the grown ups and the children - could use him to hand out the gifts to people too!

It was so entertaining and a great idea.

Wow, love your cake! Also like the baubles idea but my mum wasn't so keen which gave me doubts :0( ! Having not thought about the wedding much during a busy couple of weeks (sorry for not replying to all of you helpful ladies!) I have come back to it and am now thinking gingerbread men for the favours and I've chosen what i'm doing for my stationery (featuring snowflakes which i'm making out of sparkly card - flash of the sample hopefully attached!) I also spoke to my florist and found out that she could do a wintry wreath for behind our ceremony table with sparkly twigs, pine cones and a mix of the flowers we have already chosen so considering that too. Hard to plan a winter wedding when all around are summer wedding ideas and the sun is out! ?

Lovely idea for a wedding with lots of children, but we aren't having many and i'm trying to keep it quite 'grown up'. Plus, Father Christmas will be far too busy just before Christmas ?

    Hi Horace!

This is super romantic - it'll be a lovely time of year to get married. If I may chime in - I do lovely silver sequin tablecloths (full length to floor) that would be lovely for a cake table and I think would work beautifully for your theme.

Let me know if I can help! Smiley smile

Hi Smiley smile we were originally planning on a late-Nov/early-Dec Christmas/Winter themed wedding (until we changed and went for mid-Summer seaside theme!). Some of our ideas included -

    - Tables decorated with pine cones, yarn balls, poinsettias and mini Christmas trees.

    - Mulled wine and hot chocolate with marshmallows offered on arrival as the guests wait to go into the room for the ceremony.

    - Bride and groom Snowmen as cake toppers!

    - 3D card snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.

    - Pine cones in the bouquet

    - As guests come in, we ask them to write their name on one of (many) plain white baubles on a Christmas tree - that way, we get decorations for the Christmas tree for years to come!

    - Favours - each guest gets a Christmas tree bauble with their name printed on it, and either a quote or a symbol that represents them, our relationship with them or a memory together. Also, nicely packaged favours of a serving of luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows, things like that.

    Hope this helps! Smiley smile
