WARNING - Steer clear of Bare Faced Cheeks

stixmcvix, 21 May, 2010 at 09:07 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi ladies,

If you are looking for a hair/make-up person for your big day, take my advice and avoid Bare Faced Cheeks like the plague.

I found out about BFC on the internet, heard good things about them, impressed with their website, decent prices. Emailed the lady to enquire some more and then decided to book a trial for which she wanted £65 upfront. I duly paid this, and set my trial date for the 8th May. The week leading up to the 8th, I decided to drop her an email as I hadn't heard anything from her, but received no reply. Went on the website (www.barefacedcheeks.co.uk) to get the phone number to find the site had been suspended. Eventually found a phone number from another site's link, but it went straight to answer phone, so left several messages for her to call me. The 8th May came and went, having stayed in all day, and she never showed, never made contact. I went to her home address (or at least the address on the booking form) - no reply, so left a message for her to call. My last resort was to find her on facebook - she accepted my friend request (so she can't have fallen off the face of the earth!!). All her posts suggest that she was in the country and running BFC as usual, but had just completely ignored me. I private-messaged her via facebook which she didn't reply to, so I left a message on her wall to ask her to check her messages. This morning, I find that she has de-friended me.

To say I am disgusted with BFC's lack of courtesy and professionalism is an understatement. As you ladies all know, every penny counts when it comes to wedding planning, and not only am I £65 down, but I have also had to have a last-minute panic ringing around lots of other companies trying to find a replacement (I found beautycall.co.uk who are brilliant).

I know this may sound like a bit of a whinge on my part, but I thought that I couldn't live with myself if other ladies were signing up to BFC only to find that they can't get their act together and even have the decency to apologise for what may have been an honest mistake and pay me back the money I am owed.

I think you have a definate case for trading standards. I know its a bit of a hassle but if you have her name and address then she should be easily tracked by them. £65 is a lot of money to be down so fingers crossed for you!

That is terrible! Where abouts are you- have you found anyone else?

I was going to use BFC as my backup plan as they were reasonable prices!

Have you been on the bare faced cheeks facebook page? I'm a member and thinking of leaving some feedback of my own!!!

I think this should be a warning for everyone, only pay a deposit for booking anything in advance.

Hi Meggles - I'm in North London.

Yeah I am on the BFC Facebook page, but haven't said anything on there yet......!!

Left yet another phone message for her this morning, but clearly she wants to bury her head in the sand.

My replacement is Hannah @ www.beautycall.co.uk - very professional, very well organised, and only about £30 more expensive than BFC. My trial is tomorrow, can't wait!!

Will definitely try Trading Standards though, great tip!!

I had looked at them! Hmm, I think it's very odd to have to pay for a trial up front. For any other Londoners/surrounding who were thinking of booking them, I've booke Faye Lara, and didn't have to pay anything to the trial until after she'd finished. I'm very happy too.?

It could be an opponent trying to discredit them, but then again the site has been suspended - again, this happens, could be something as simple as the lease is paid by direct debit on a card that's expired. But OTOH if someone had been "done over" they'd be trying to warn as many brides as poss I guess so why not post on more than one forum? Personally I find it terrifying handing over all this money to suppliers with no guarantees they'll still be in business come your wedding! I guess we'll see if the BFC woman shows here.

Hi Trickers, I can see why you would think that, but I am a genuine bride-to-be, I can assure you. Not sure how I can prove that, but the reason for posting on multiple forums is to let as many other brides-to-be as possible.

The only thing I can say, is that you can check the BFC site yourself (you'll see that its down) and you can ring them (it goes straight to answer phone). I have commenced a case through Hackney Trading Standards this morning, so will let you all know how that goes.

If you choose not to believe me, I completely understand, it just depends if you're prepared to take the risk. I was a fool to pay my trial fee upfront, but I count my lucky stars that I know now rather than find this all out on my wedding day!

Interesting how a) she's taken down the original post on the FB page relating to this forum, and b) she has the time to reply on Facebook, but not to address my endless emails, phone calls, facebook messages, etc.! Still no word from her as yet......

I can't see why she says "get your facts straight" but doesn't explain what the facts are! Glad you've found someone you're happy with now stixmcvix and hope you get your money back.
