Was there romance in your house?

yorkshirekiwi, 14 February, 2015 at 20:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

Well, we had the thread asking what you think of Valentines day, but I was wondering whether you followed through. Did you ignore it as planned, or was your house full of flowers and chocolates?

There wasn't so much of a sniff of romance at our place. H went off Bee Keeping with one of his mates and I took the opportunity of an empty house to shampoo the carpets and get the laundry done. When H got back he'd forgotten that my car's out of action and I hadn't been able to go shopping, so he'd had some lunch and brought nothing for me. He rectified this by dropping me off with a tenner and a book at a local cafe. I had a nice quiet lunch while he took my car to get the battery replaced. On his return he said: the woman at the car shop told me it was valentines day, so i thought I'd put your car through the car wash for you!

And that my friends is what romance looks like in the YK household! What does it look like for you?

I'm sat alone crying into a glass of prosecco whilst h plays call of duty with his mate downstairs. Had loads if nice food bought in for it, clearly going in the bin.

Aww, mini, I can't tell if you mean that or not, I hope not :-(

YK, sounds good to me! We had some steak in anyway, so we had steak, homemade chips, peas and garlic mushrooms and we're making our way through a bottle of red while watching a film, but that's a pretty standard Saturday at home for us anyway

So sorry to hear that mini. Sending you some weird Internet hugs xxx

We made dinner together. H did the main course - yummy lamb shanks and I did chocolate truffle torte for pud.

we ate too much then sat down to watch a weirdly intriguing film called 'Her'

Gosh thats crap Mini! Make yourself the food and have lots of drink. I would be so mad if my OH did that.

We had a meal out, small valentines gifts and watching tv and films together and playing computer games

Give him a clout, then make all the food for yourself tomorrow lunch time when he's hungover and don't let him have any of it. Did he know you had stuff in for it?

What did you think of the film? I remember getting totally swept away with it and really enjoyed it.

    Zero romance here.

We exchanged cards this morning and I gave H a bar of chocolate that Hotel Chocolat sent me for free that I can't eat. Right now I'm sat next to him in the dj booth. So minimal romance, but that's fine. Only last week he paid for my childhood teddy bear to be restored for me, so he's done enough Smiley smile

I bought some vile coffee and H bought some vile Italian chocolates. H also gave me a lovely stainless steel cafetiere and I gave H some whisky minatures. We coudn't find anything to watch on TV or netflix. Went to bed early.

I came home on Friday to an enormous bunch of roses which was a lovely surprise after a *** week.

I had to go into work for a few hours though on Saturday but made up for it by cooking dinner for him (he normally does all the cooking).

Mini - I'd have eaten the food myself and drunk all the prosecco! Hope you're alright today x

Kick him in the balls Mini.

The valentines fail in our house was mine. W bought me a beautiful card and a couple of little cute gifts. I didn't get her anything. Genuine mistake. Still, she had tea and toast in bed and get favourite dinner made for her. I am forgiven. I feel very sad still though Smiley sad

    Second SWs suggestion Mini.

No romance here other than the normal level. He made me a beautiful meal on Thursday but not for Clinton Cards Day, just because he loves me.

I'm working nights so no proper opportunity for a nice meal or anything, plus we don't really go in for massive gestures on Valentine's day. I bought him some nice chocs and he brought me cake for "breakfast" in bed when I woke up in the evening.

We exchanged cards and a small gift each in the morning, went out for coffee and lunch, then in the evening had an M&S dine in for £20 deal - steak and chips etc. H2B has a stinking cold so he went to bed at 9.30 and I stayed up until 1 doing work. Not overly romantic, but nice enough, apart from the cold/work bit.

Hmm not especially. I was woken up after night shift by Mr Erin to be told l smell?! I then did loads of stuff round the house and went to the gym while he made some flat pack furniture. I couldn't be arsed cooking so we went to an all you can eat place nearby -classy! We got each other cards and a little something. We are out for steak dinner tonight

We were in Wales with husband's sister, her fiance and his mother so not particularly romantic! We did jokey cards and edible presents from M&S. Did get to go around a castle and have a Welsh cream tea - yum yum!

We went to see Jupiter Ascending (not great) and then OH cooked - I am usually the one who always cooks so it was a nice change. We did cards and he gave me some gifts - he is feeling a bit guilty because I surprised him with a tablet for our anniversary last month. Nothing too romantic but still a nice day.

H failed, he left my card at his work and didn't get me a gift. I, on the other hand, felt very virtuous because I had bought him a small gift and made a card. We went out for a nice meal in the evening. We don't normally do anything this extravagant for valentines but a new local restaurant we had been wanting to try had a valentines set menu on so we got tempted in.

Sorry you had such a shite evening mini.

My H took me away for the weekend but it was wet and miserable and there wasn't much to do there. It was nice to get away though. I bought him a small gift and we exchanged cards. We don't normally bother with V day apart from cards but as this was our first as a married couple it was nice to make a bit of effort. We'll probably be back to boring next year!

We exchanged cards and OH had hidden chocolate hearts around the house. Went out house hunting and then ate out in the evening cos we were too knackered to cook.

Mini i hope you kicked OH and ate all the food yourself!

We exchanged cheesey cards whilst I demanded breakfast. Gave OH a DVD of Frank skinner's latest stand up. He missed out on seeing him live when we were in New York getting married and hasn't let me forget it!

We then embarked on a very messy daytime pub crawl from a pub in town working our way back to our flat, where we drunkenly ate curry whilst watching Take Me Out. Romance is not dead!
